Title: Tell me about a Better MX Clear!
Post by: Severe on Tue, 12 September 2017, 14:48:55
I've been through all the mainstream switches. MX blacks, reds, greens, blues, Topres of all weights and measures and I finally settled on LOVING the MX clears on my Pok3r and my Vortex Core (clears feel much better on the CORE than they do on the Pok3r. maybe because of the smaller board.

I'm now building a Planck and want the feel of the MX clear. I love the weight and am willing to even go heavier since I don't so much type as carpet bomb the keyboard.

BUT

I want more of a tactile feel than the Clears offer. If feels spongy. Not as much on the CORE and it does on the Pok3r, but that defined bump just isn't there.

In closing i want

HEAVY switch. minimum 80g
PROFOUND tactile bump
MX compatible stems since I own several thousand dollars worth of MX keycap sets

Whatcha got?

Just an FYI going heavier with mx clear will actually give you a less tactile bump.

Halo Clear and Halo True might be what you want but you will have to wait for a while

I know that's an unfortunate side effect of heavier switches which is why I'm reaching out to the community to find something I may not have heard of that will offer what im looking for

I think people are going nuts with the mix 'n match MX switch setups now. To the detriment of quality. To each his own though. For tactile switches my favorites remain gateron browns with 67g springs.  :thumb:

Tactile Gray seem like they might be just for you.  Never tried them personally.

78g zealios might be worth a try as well

Gateron greens are great, snappy and heavy, but clicky.

I've tried blacks but I've always gone back to clears. I love the heavy feedback. But after playing long sessions of games on MX blacks, I can really feel my fingers wanting to cramp up.

I think bump also depends on keycaps used

I believe what he meant was, with thick or heavier keycaps (SA profile?) you will feel less bump compared with thin ABS keycaps. But since OP owns several thousand dollars worth of MX keycaps, there's no chance that he is going to use thin ABS on his mx clears.

I love my Gateron greens.  Of course, there's no way I would use them as my daily driver, but they are fun.  I can't imagine anyone would every actually use heavier switches.

In my own experience, that it is by definition, different form any of yours: Lighter to heavier, blacks, ergo-clears, blue-lights, ghetto-greens. Right now using the first two, at home and at work, respectively.

For what it's worth, if OP or anyone else are thinking about the Gateron browns, which are a tactile low-force switch (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1271) and sometimes compared to the MX clears, they are very scratchy imo and its very noticeable. I currently have them installed on one of my personal Advantage keyboards. But to be fair I've grown to love linear switches like the MX Reds.

Dell KB522 rubberdome is superior to MX Clears.

Jailhouse blues are definitely up there for me, but depending on how you mod them they can still be a bit mushy. Though most of the time I go for clears out of convenience :P
