R4.5 is exactly the same as R4. I don't think there have been any other changes since then, either. Maybe some tweaks to the stem colors? I can't remember exactly when that happened.
As for the older versions, honestly they were still great. R4 the stems changed to reduce wobble but, IMO, the wobble in previous rounds wasn't more noticeable in actual usage than any other switch.

Is there an easy way of telling what generation of Zealio it is?

I believe R6 is when they started changing the color of the stem to denote which spring weight a Zealio originally came in.
By color I mean...light purple to dark purple.

It was R2.
- R1 is all the same color.
- R2 changed pigmentation (light to dark, 62 to 78)
- R3 had no changes
- R4 had stem wobble reduced
- R4.5 had no changes
- R5 had no changes
- R6 had translucent bottoms changed color (white is PCB mount, cream is plate)
- R7 has no changes
I believe this is accurate but I'll go and check it up.
In short, unless you're getting a great deal on R4 or lower, or a good deal on R4.5 onwards, just buy new.
