Title: How do you sand/finish your artisans?
Post by: AuthenticDanger on Sat, 16 September 2017, 14:56:22
Hey all!

Does anyone have tips or pointers for how to finish resin keycaps when you pull 'em from the mold? After you trim the flashing, what do you do to smooth the bottom of your caps?

I'm thinking about getting some ultra fine sandpaper and looking into something I can put on my Dremel to use for polishing.

Any insight would be appreciated!

I give the bottom a quick 10-30 second sanding with 250 grit sand paper, to get a flat surface, then 350 grit. Then I wet polish in slightly soapy water using progressively finer and finer micron-grade polishing paper. This pack specifically has lasted me forever: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BHGC7G/ .

In my experience, it's difficult to get an even, smooth finish with a Dremel.

Awesome info. I'll give that pack a look. Thanks!
