Legos were my favorite as a child, then they started selling knex and I got totally obsessed. Wish I still had my knex :(

FA Schwartz Fisher Technic. I haven't seen any real Fisher Technic in three decades, but there's a German site (http://www.fischertechnik.de/en/index.aspx) that's close.

I grew up with Fischertechnik, and I'm still grateful for that. By far the most sophisticated and versatile constuction toy I'm aware of. Only downside: It's ****ing expensive even in Germany, probaly more so in the US.
