Title: [IC] RO-59 Lubricant
Post by: Faux on Thu, 02 November 2017, 22:52:13
Hi Everyone,

Although we have already ran an IC on reddit, we need to also run one on GH in order to make a GB post. Below is the cost and the schedule, although it might be pushed back a little to accommodate for the delay in getting up out GH GB page.

We will be offering the lubricant in quantities of 1.8ml units and 5ml quanities.

If you are unfamiliar with RO-59, it is a rare lubricant that is often hailed as one of the best possible lubricants for keyboards. While popular in Korea, it is rarely seen in the Western world. We spoke to the manufacturers to obtain the best lube specifically for keyboards.

Pricing:
Each vial of 1.8 ml lube will cost 5 dollars + Shipping
Each vial of 5 ml lube will cost 13 dollars + Shipping
If you are CONUS, shipping will cost 3 dollars.
If you are international, shipping will cost 15 dollars. (We are looking for cheaper shipping options. If you are in Canada, shipping should be closer to 10-11)

Timeline:
GB opens--As soon as the gb page gets approved
GB Closes--11/17/2017
Invoices Start--11/18/2017
Payment Deadline--11/30/2017
Payment to Manufacturer--12/1/2017
Lube Arrives--12/7/2017
Lube Goes out--12/20/17 (just in time for Christmas, although this really depends on how many orders we get)

Been wanting some of this stuff since I found about it when i first joined GH.
Wish I could get some in the bottles I've seen on Youtube where the little bottle itself has a brush built into the cap (like whiteout).

Signed up for a few bottles. I don't know how different the effect of lube in Topre is vs mx, but I know the next 3 boards I plan to build are all going to be Topre. Can anyone comment on this stuff used on Topre boards?

RO-59 seems to be a company that makes several similair lubricants.

Which particular variant of the RO-59 lubricant are you talking about here?

Is it that rare? There are threads about it from many years ago here on geekhack. Seems like it was ok but nothing groundbreaking.

Will this work for both linear and tactile switches? I haven't done any lubing myself (yet), but from what I already understand, at least for krytox there's different lube for the two types of switches.

I believe RO-59 KT (which isn't listed on the site) is generally what people talk about in the keyboard world? Would be nice to get confirmation though.

I have a sample of it and while I'm not convinced it's better than the various Krytox options, I will probably pick some up anyways to try on a full build...

Correct, it is the KT variant. We'll have a sample coming in soon to test it.

We'll test it, but typically, the linear variant would be thinner. I know that some people mix their lube with some small quantities of water to get it to the right consistency.

We'll probably opt for vials and separate brushes. The brushes typically in the containers are not soft enough and don't do a great job of spreading small quantities of lube.

Any reason using this instead of krytox 105 / 205?

205/105 will split after a few years.
