Title: G80-3000 spacebar rattle
Post by: whininggit on Sun, 21 March 2010, 14:35:20
Can anybody give me any pointers to reducing spacebar rattle noise on the Cherry G80-3000? It's not a big deal but I would like to reduce it if possible.

I'm fairly sure it's the support mechanism that makes the noise, and I have a tube of silicone grease (not spray) but I don't want to go haphazardly applying that anywhere, and wondered if anybody else has done it before.

First make sure that the supports on both sides are securely snapped in the PCB, and the wire bracket is snapped in both supports. They sometimes become loose during transport.
I don't think silcone grease can do any harm in this spot, as there are no switches nearby and the supports are easily dismountable to get the stuff out again if need be.

Thanks. I put the grease (quite liberally) around the supports at either end of the metallic bar, and it solved the spacebar rattle.

I've never experienced this with a cherry keyboard- at least not a cherry keyboard with cherry stabilizers.

If you gotta grease, I recommend a conservative amount. use just enough to make it work. Any extra and you'll be kicking yourself later on. That stuff will attract dust and debris like a mother.
