Title: Identify a switch! :))
Post by: Duckyreddy on Mon, 13 November 2017, 21:54:31
Found these under a Citizen Printing calculator, no idea what they are...

They feel very smooth, weighted at around 55g and are linear, I have taken the board itself apart and the switches are complete independently soldered on, no rubber domes to be found, fortunately!
The board was made in Japan if that is helpful at all.

Anyone know what they are?
thank you :))

Wow, ya got me.

Keycaps looked amazing, had to bring it home.
Thought it was vintage blacks for some reason, they feel damn good!

Took the cap off and I wasn't quite sure how to react lol...

Holy moly, thank you so much.
I was about to desolder a switch to see the markings underneath so I could find a clue, not all heroes wear capes.  ;)

That was one of the switches I found where I wondered how long it would take for anyone to find one in a keyboard (mine was NOS from STRONIC in France, but I also have some used examples from Bulgaria). There's a few still waiting to be found in a real piece of equipment, in particular Tokai SPT-0101 (opto-electronic with Alps mount; only seen on the Tokai website) and GRI KBR (looks similar to Futaba MD series but is a reed switch; found the Futaba patent, but it has never been seen). I had real doubts about the silly little Stackpole switches (series name not known, but we have the patents), but snuci found a whole keyboard of those, including an unexpected alternate action version.

It's amazing to me that there are examples of switches never seen in the wild, but I suppose a lot of people have used or destroyed keyboards never having considered the switches in them. I wonder if any of these switches are truly "extinct" due to being recycled or trashed.

Ah, well, Reddit people won't add anything to the wiki, so their finds just get lost and forgotten. Serves them right.

Thank you for the link, These switches aren't common and the two comments on the post you have linked have found them on their Citizen Calculators too.

They've been used in other equipment too. The wiki page mentions this one:

Something else was found with them too.
