Title: White M13, part 92G7461 (Maxi-switch)
Post by: sethstorm on Wed, 24 March 2010, 15:01:52
A white M13 from one of the usual suspects (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140393706440&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123).

Too much to justify a part-out, but could be a cheap way to get a M13 w/ a good trackpoint.

Which, according to an IBM nut I'm friends with (the knowledgeable type who know's what's up with stuff), is extraordinarily rare when compared to black ones...which are already less common than many other keyboards.

I'm not one to advocate buying from this seller, but that's a great price on a rather rare keyboard. Just don't expect the friendliest support.

Actually I haven't seen MW post anything since the transformation into a disemboweled rabbit.

Edit: I think you'd agree that what I said wouldn't constitute a 'bull**** storm' on its own...

Thought it was the other way around.

Oh well.  Back to my keyswapping.

The black ones are considered more desirable, but the white ones are harder to find (and if what I'm told is true, the production numbers were substantially lower, which is why that's the case)

I think I'd prefer a "beige" one because the labels would be more resiliant (that, and because everyone is distracted over the black ones, too busy to give the "old ugly beige" ones a glance). I do like the sliver logo though.

My guess as to why the black ones were produced more, was, to match with the whole thinkpad scheme. IBM did create a few beige products for awhile (like the cool beige LCDs and the beige netvistas). It would be great to have a beige thinkpad with a lavender trackpoint and blue logo. Even though I'd probably be the only customer, it would look nice (to me).

Beige is easier to see and lights up the room with its beigyness.
