Title: I made a baby...and her name is Adreeno
Post by: xfocus on Wed, 24 March 2010, 23:50:50
So I haven't been on here in a while, mostly because I've spent every free moment working on a website.  I'm posting it here in hopes of getting some constructive criticism.

It's a sports event and networking site that allows you to find sporting events near you and hook up with other users that share similar interests.

I could go on and on about the features but instead I'll just let you guys play with it.

Without further ado, I give you Adreeno (http://beta.adreeno.com).

The font you used for "adreeno" looks awfully similar to lenovo's.
I probably shouldn't give any critique since I'm viewing it in IE 6 at 800x600.

I guess at first glance it's similar, (http://i.imgur.com/X2WDb.png) but I don't really see the resemblance apart from the fact they're both italicized :-)

Dude, you forgot Sumo Wrestling! How could you forget to include SUMO WRESTLING!

Nice work. What did you code the site in? Was it just you or do you have accomplices?

Thanks!  I coded it myself in ASP.NET MVC.  I rewrote it from scratch halfway through.  I originally started with .NET Webforms and realized quickly that even though I was familiar with it, it wasn't the right tool.

Looks cool.  The biggest use for me for something like this would be to hook up with motorcyclists for impromptu rides.  But that doesn't really jive with the type activities you are targeting.

It's funny you say that.  You're the second person to mention the tie in with motorcycles..

So what prompted you to build this XF?

So what prompted you to build this XF?

I'm an avid mountain biker.  The biggest problem is finding people to mountain bike with.  As much as I enjoy mountain biking by myself, I have 10x more fun when I'm with someone.  Most of my friends are either not into the sport or have schedules that don't allow them to go on a ride as frequently as I would like.

I volunteered to help my local mountain biking association rebuild their site but they opted to go their own way.  So with that I decided to invest the time I would've spent on their site on my own site.

I figured if there was a place where you could post that you were going to go out for a ride and people could come and do a search for all rides within X miles of their home, then people would be able to easily connect.  Once I started building it I realized how easy it would be to incorporate a wider range of sports.  So nearly 10 months after the fact, and a lot of on-again/off-again development, the site is 95% done.  The core is there, now it's just a matter of getting people to use it.  Without data, it's sort of worthless.

Looking at a user's profile that has a lot of data, such as this one (http://beta.adreeno.com/focus), gives you an idea of what it would end up being.  You can also see that particular user's sports stats (http://beta.adreeno.com/Focus/sports/mountain-biking), or stats for the entire sport in general (http://beta.adreeno.com/sports/mountain-biking).

But all this isn't possible without a good user base, which is the next step.
