We have teamed up with Tesla Typing who run the World's First Online Copy and Audio Examination Site.
We're offering a Free Filco keyboard to the fastest typist on the tesla typing test each month.
So come and have a go if you think you're fast enough.
Tesla Typing Test (http://www.teslatyping.co.uk/index.cfm)
It is a valid test and a certificate is issued which can be used to validate your speed to employers etc.
You will be scored on speed and accuracy, you will need to subscribe and there is a charge per test, but this covers the certificate and a small gift. And you could be winning a Filco Majestouch!!
Good Luck

Supposedly some people on here will give this top 5 a run for their money if they're as fast as they say they are.
Top 5 Results 25 Mar 10
1 Stephanie Windsor 115wpm
2 Jan Fisher 104wpm
3 Tina Woollard 102wpm
4 Sharon Sullivan 98wpm
5 Lin McDonnell- Wilson 95wpm
Haha, I only hit 67wpm when I just tried. I definitely need more practice.

I don't know why I read the first name as "Stevie Wonder."
-
He knows his way round a keyboard.
-
UK only? EU? ROW?
Ill be brushing up and having a pop, could do with something certificated as I am looking to get out of retail soon-ish anyway. and If I don't pay for the keyboard, it won't count towards the "Wife Limit". I hover around 80WPM, and peak at around 100WPM.

Anyone anywhere can enter.
-
you need to pay for the test for a chance to win

Yes, this was explained in the First post.
-
Those high scores are for one day only too BTW. There are probably quite a few people here who could do some damage to those scores.
-
They need to give away a keyboard to the "most average" typist. :p

We're sending out A Filco Majestouch NKRO to the March winner this week. The speedy March Hare is A lady in the UK.
The Top Five above, is the 'all time' top five. Our March winner has not made it on there - food for thought...

I registered on there and took the copy test, I had no idea that I'd be anywhere near as fast as I was, 112WPM, 93% accuracy. Had I known I'd rank so high, I would have taken it a bit slower and probably could have still gone over 100 with 100%. And this is on a rubber dome :(
Does the contest require you to do the audio test as well? It won't let me take the copy test again, does that ever reset or is it just a one time thing?
-
Hi Izzypizzy.
Welcome to Geekhack.
Well done, faster than you thought eh? And 100% accuracy - that is good.
I'll need to check the details before answering your questions properly and it's May Day Bank Holiday so will be Tuesday I think.
Watch this space.

Never really learned touch typing for real, have to flick my eyes down and up between kbd and screen.
Speedtest says "You reached 233 points, so you achieved position 7631 of 39591 on the ranking list" - pretty good looking at the numbers heh ;)
Correct finger setting is such a drag to type with o_O
-
Izzypizzy.
I finally have an answer for you.
I apologise for the delay, we were doing a show last week.
You don't have to take the Audio test as well, the contest is a copy test only. There is a limit on the amount of free tests you can do.
Bruce.

Thanks Bruce.

Just out of curiosity, did the May winner ever get posted?
-
Cool, although I don't want to pay for testing, and I can only reach about 110 on my best day on average, I'll tell my friend about it who can do 130 average easy. He might be able to reach the all time list, although having to pay to do the tests might frighten him off as well...
-
Hi Morning Song.
No, not yet - I need to get onto that.
Watch this space.
Chimera, A 110 score could win it!!
-
And the May winner is...............
A Lady from Michigan USA.
At a Filco thumping 107 wpm and 95% accuracy.
Congratulations, we will be contacting the winner tomorrow.
-
Only Morning Song can know if they are the mystery speedster.
I'm told that's a great score so respect if it is Morning Song, and very happy that it came from a Geekhack member.
-
How difficult are the tests, and can you practice them? How many quotes or whatever are there? I guess I should look at it more.. I can do 107 pretty easily if it's a relatively easy quote.
-
Boy, wouldn't that be funny if that were me.
>.> Just let me find my mini screwdriver

The 112 with 93% accuracy I did is awful close! I didn't buy a certificate though, I wonder which one would actually score higher? 5wpm vs 2% accuracy

You don't have to pay to do the test, after you do the test, you can choose to pay for the certificate, which is what you need to be eligible. So if you do well on the test and feel confident, just buy the certificate, I don't think it costs much.

Hmm, but you need to pay to take the test?
-
Damn you lot type fast. I only managed 50wpm with 94% accuracy.
-
Guys.
I couldn't do anything to compromise the privacy of a competition entrant. And as sponsors we just get the score and the address, but the winner did request 'Clicky' blue switches on their prize Filco........
-
Do you only get one shot a free test? I didn't realize it and messed up..you have to buy a test then I guess for more?
That would explain why the test scores are relatively low...I went into it on a different computer than I'm used to just thinking I'd see what it was like...but now can't find another way to take another copy test. It's also a bit different from like the typing races because it doesn't correct you until after, so it's a bit more like real life which is good, but it was surprising to me.
Only got 70wpm and made 4 errors for 94% which is like horrible for me. lol
Apparently it's like $20, or 10 pounds to buy another copy test? geesh
-
Hmm, but you need to pay to take the test?
Looks like you're right, you can buy a certificate for your free test (3 pounds), but in order to be eligible for the contest, you have to buy a test (9,95 pounds).
-
I admittedly practiced a bit at another site before i tried the test there.
-
lol, I can only do about 53wpm...for now (so hope the comp stays for longer, hehe)

Sure you wouldn't be giving to a bunch of geeks the address of a lady who can tell a blue Cherry from a black one!!!1

Is this contest still running?
