Title: KBD Fans new silent tactile switches (Aliaz)
Post by: pixelpusher on Sun, 17 December 2017, 13:50:35
Thought I would share if you haven't seen this news:

https://kbdfans.myshopify.com/blogs/news/aliaz-slient-switch-will-coming

[attachimg=1]

• Tactile switch with mold, housing, and stem redesigned by KBDfans
• Silent switch with a lubricated stem that glides smoother than stock switches
• 5 spring weights to choose from: 62 g, 65 g , 67 g, 78 g ,100 g
• Choice of either Pcb mount (5 leg) and Plate mount (3 leg) - both with transparent housings
• Support for SMD RGB LEDs, 2 Leg LEDs and 4 Leg RGB LEDs
• Transparent housing, Pink-colored stem
• Has a feeling similar to Mx Clear switches, but smoother and better
• Manufactured by Gateron

I'll definitely be buying some 62g and 78g variants.

The general consensus on these so far is that the stem is more like a Gateron Silent Brown than a Zealio or MX Clear.

Right, thats exactly what it is. Which I for one am excited about since heavy browns are pretty nice switches.
Heres the profile comparison that was posted at the bottom of that thread:

And heres the brown compared to the silent Zealios - Zilent:

The compelling factor here for me is going to be the price.  Are we going to get silenced, reduced wobble, and smoother switches for a non-premium price?  We shall see, I guess.

Yup, I'm pretty excited for these, since I found Gat Browns to not be tactile enough, in comparison to MX Browns. I hope they'll make a non-silent version though.

that said but the bump is smaller than Clear, how can the feeling be similar...

hope it will not be a "re-colored silent Gateron Brown"

Hopefully it's not but if it would be atleast you get completely transparent shell which is always nice.

Would be cool to know if they've figured out the "stickiness" issue I've heard there is with dampeners getting a bit sticky if switches aren't used for a while.

Didn't they say they redesigned the bottom housing? The leaf could be generating a lot of tactility in these bottoms, similar to Panda switches (which is why people put Zealio stems into them for a super-tactile MX switch).

Why couldn't they just copy MX Clear bump like "innovative" Zealio? Bear in mind that this silencing material used in Gateron switches sticks a bit to the switch housing. Read my Gateron Silent Black review for more information.

interesting. I havent had that with the silent reds that i got from KBDfans but i can see that happening. I have an issue much like that with the zelencios and my 67g gateron browns where they stick together when they sit overnight.

Nah its not bad really. You only notice it when you go to press down a key for the first time in a while and it has an extra "pop" at first.  :)) Other than that! i absolutely love the setup (https://i.imgur.com/RgJqW20.jpg). I cant imagine the tiny little piece of "rubber" that touches the switch top would have anywhere near the same level of adhesion as the zealiencios.

Yup. I ordered a pile of the 70g ones. At nearly half the price of the Zilents, i will be interested to see the differences when i have both in hand:
https://kbdfans.myshopify.com/collections/swtich/products/pre-orderaliaz-silent-switch-tactile

looks like the spring is coated in black instead of the previous gold... i hope its not a paint that can flake off:

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing impressions of these, especially at the 60g weight. I never bought zealios because the price seemed pretty ridiculous. I can buy Cherry MX clears and mod them to ergo clears for significantly less money.

I’m worried about those springs.  The multitude of coils looks a lot like zeal and cherry springs. This usually leads to a scratchy sound.  Hopefully not.  But that’s what I’ve experienced.

Considering the stems look no different from browns, these things better have really tactile leafs to justify being 50% more expensive than the silent gat browns (as well as the comparisons to clears).

The rumor was that the bottom was redesigned to make it more tactile.  I'll be curious to see how that works

I would guess stiffer contact leaf to amplify the bump. I would also guess this is why they come pre-lubed, would be quite scratchy otherwise.

I haven't seen anything yet.  Still really interested from the typing demos posted a while back.

Yesterday I attended a meetup, someone already has these Aliaz switches  :).

The bump is similar to MX Clear / Zealio in term of "length", it is only as big as Brown (I have Gateron Silent Brown). I think they're pretty smooth, I can't comment on the sound, though.

I will definitely build a board with these.  ;D

I've got a handful of these, don't think I'm gonna put them in a board, but they're not bad.

Sounds like they aren’t amazing but maybe not bad.  I’ll skip a full order and just get a sample.

Best case is just use the full clear housing.

Wow, these are really really nice!  I got some from Novelkeys today.  I picked up both the 60g and 70g versions.  Single switches feel very similar in weight to me.  I haven't put the 70g in a board yet, but I just finished putting the 60g in a hotswap keyboard.  I really like them.  They feel very smooth.  They feel and sound nicer than my Cherry silent blacks for sure.

They have this weird thing where if you press really hard they push down further.  It must be the rubber compressing at the end.  I don't think you would ever actually do this, but it's there.  It's like aftertouch, lol.

I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a quiet switch at a good price.  The tactility is extremely low.  I would say it is somewhere close to MX browns, although much smoother.  I honestly don't notice the tactile bump when typing fast.  You can feel it on a slow press.

Now I have to fix the stabilizer in this space bar b/c it's all I hear when I type. rattle rattle rattle rattle.
