Hello Geekhackers!
Here is Vincent from YMDK and here is the second IC for our new 96-Keyboard. This time we want to offer something with an higher quality than before, something different.
We made an aluminium keyboard, with both aluminium and acrylic bottom and many options to add.
Name is still pending and will be engraved on the bottom with the logo

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScIH7c5wY8wB1IjhhDkMncFNg28uUAZYdY4V3UK0rX7i7kp1Q/viewform
BASE KIT 1 - $150 (if >100 units, otherwise +$15):
- Anodized aluminium top
- Frosted acrylic bottom
- Anodized Aluminium plate (with switch top opening holes)
- PCB (QMK, different from YMD96, gold pads and higher quality)
- Stabilizers, etc..
BASE KIT 2 - $200 (if >100 units, otherwise +$15):
- Anodized aluminium top
- Anodized aluminium bottom
- Brass Weight (coated with electroplating)
- Anodized Aluminium plate (with switch top opening holes)
- PCB (QMK, different from YMD96, gold pads and higher quality)
- Stabilizers, etc..
Basically kit 2 is like 1 but with alu bottom (different design as well) and a brass weight, you will not have RGB in this case.
BASE KIT 3 - $260
As above but you also get the acrylic bottom, basically you get both the bottom of the cases, the RGB version and the heavy version.
Other options
- Genuine Cherry stabs instead of OEM: +$5
- Brass plate only (you will not get alu plate, only 1 brass electroplated plate): +$20
- Additional Brass plate (you get both brass electroplated + alu plate): +$40
- Extra PCB: +$27
- Switches, we will have many options, switches prices will be similar to YMD96 GB: 105 gateron $19.5 Cherry something more, etc..
- Soldering service, not expensive, still to quote, we are considering clipping and lubing stabs too
Name still must be decided, you can help on this :)
Shipping will cost like the YMD96 GB, affordable
The keyboard will support many every layouts
For colors (plate and case), we are considering using the same colors of YMD96, these, but you can give us ideas, also considering Dark Purple.
Please help us in this second IC!
Also note that we are in a different timezone, so we might not answer fast but please write below your questions.
Greetings

Very interested !
-
This is great, interested for sure.
-
The price point is awesome, i really need a board with that layout
-
I'm super interested, it's like you knew I was on the hunt for a 96 key.
Also that price is most definitely right.

Add split spacebar support and this would be amazing
-
What exactly do you mean by an electroplated weight?
Is it a brass weight electroplated for looks?
Or is it something else electroplated with brass? If so what is the actual weight made of? Steel? Aluminum?
-
This is looking great, really love the price. I’m definitely interested in #2 with add brass plate

It's made of brass, electroplated on brass, not other material

Split spacebar on a 96 doesn't looks great imho, also too many layouts will turn the plate into a cheese-plate, making it almost useless :D

Is a brass or steel body possible as an option instead of aluminum? I for one would pay whatever the cost.

That's like 5-6kg+, can be considered a weapon, not a keyboard lul

You are wrong imho :D

There is any around btw? I don't remember any split spacebar 96 honestly.

Nice to see you over here, Vincent!
I filled out the first IC on Reddit a while back; I might jump on it but not sure just yet. Too many projects going on at the moment.
Name candidate for the deck: Messier-96!

I have to agree on this one, mainly because of the larger plate. Wouldn’t want to sacrifice rigidity of the plate for split space bar compatibility, which probably a small minority of the group would use anyway.

This, there will be already many layout supported, adding more will make pointless the plate, especially on the base alu plate (on the brass plate will be better but still..)
-
That looks pretty great. I would like to see one fully assembled, but I'm certainly interested.
-
alps support?

Whole body? Will consider it but that should not be a common request...

Seems not only me think like this

There is assembly service surely,no worries, but for DIY kit, self assembly is much popular

Or just brass top and aluminum/plastic bottom to keep cost down. I'm in.

So how can you say it looks bad? :P

been looking for a 96-key kit for a while, this looks incredible! I love the design of the acrylic bottom option, but would definitely like to see a brass plate option, and possibly a brass weight in the acrylic if possible (seems like the acrylic is thick enough to support it). The brass weight in the acrylic would be nice to have, but definitely not a dealbreaker if the cost is too high.

He wanted to offer a cheap kit as well and the brass weight will bump the price of the cheap kit to a $190-200.
Also by making a hole on the acrylic, to fit the brass weight that you see on alu, it will raise the price because you have to produce 2 different acrylic cases, one with the hole, one without the hole and acrylics has an high failure rate during production, making it probably more expensive than alu lol or something really near.
So how can you say it looks bad? :P
Well you can imagine it! I have the split on the 75%, if i put a numpad near the 75% i can see how it will look. Honestly i find usefull the split spacebar on small keebs, 40-60% especially.
That's also just my opinion, but i would not sacrifice the rigidity of the plate to make space to something that really few few people will use on a 96-keyboard. If you sum all the layout of their previous 96 (ymd96, basically every layout) + split spacebar, you will have a keyboard really not sturdy near the spacebar.
To be totally honest, i would even prefer to remove some of the rarely used layout that were on the ymd 96. The plate has one purpouse to me, if you want to have a cheese-plate you should go pcb-mount+no-plate+switch films :D

No, I have no problem assembling the board, but I would like to see pictures of it with switches and keys to see what the final product looks like.

Good idea however this kind of combination needs much time to design to make the surface outstanding.

Hi Vincent! Would it be possible to buy a kit with brass weight that's not engraved?

I asked directly the same before and he said yes, probably it is still valid
