Title: Bamboo, Scorpius?
Post by: Otterclock on Wed, 31 March 2010, 09:14:32
So I ran across this thing.
Bamboo Keyboard (http://viviyzw.en.made-in-china.com/product/PMnQTlBxRrYK/China-Bamboo-Keyboard-GWBK10401-.html)

I saw a couple other bamboo boards discussed here, but neither of them looked like this one. Am I nuts, or does that look a little like a Scorpius M10? What makes me think it is the raised front with the overhanging lip. The LEDs are off a little, which could be a result of the new housing. USB cable is in the right place. I dunno.

Not bad looking, if it had mechanical switches, and contoured keys I'd love a board like that.

Yeah, it sort of reminds me of the wooden keyboards being sold on eBay.  I want the ebony one, but not for $1500.

I contacted the company and asked if they would sell an individual one, and for how much. They normally look to act as a wholesaler for dealers, and I sort of mentioned that I procure tech for a university and wanted to try one out, which is true, minus the using of bamboo keyboards. After about a week of language confusion and back/forth emails they said they would ship me one for $58. If it's mechanical, which is doubtful, it would be a neat find. The resemblance to an M10 is buggin me.

Will do. My guess is the keytops are painted plastic and only the body is bamboo. For $58 I may as well check it out. I hope they have a paypal account because I'm not sure I wanna give em my credit card number.

You don't want ebony.   I also collect exotic pool cues and vintage chess sets and ebony has a tendency to check/crack.   Nothing worse than spending $1500 and ending up with cracked keys just from sitting around.

That sucks.  I think this keyboard just has an ebony finish, though.  The price is way out of line for what the thing actually is.

You collect pool cues?  You really should try a full sized trackball.  A variety of trackballs use them. (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=5808&highlight=balls+prettier)

What do you to a trackball with a pool cue?  Don't answer that.

I've wanted wanted of those since I've been on Geekhack!!!!  Sell me one please!!   I just don't whether I prefer the cue ball  (would need to be an 9-ball for me) or the blingy lit up clear ball??

I'll trade you a Model M Mini for a modified trackball??   And I'll throw in 2 movie tickets and a toaster oven...   ;-))

How clean is that Mini?  I might be interested in a trade like that, my CH doesn't light up like Ripster's disco inferno trackballs do though.
Title: of course you could always...

...

....do it yourself...this bamboo keyboard resembles the scrabble keyboard
http://datamancer.net/keyboards/scrabble/scrabble.htm mentioned some time ago in another thread here on GH...and seen on one or two DIY pages.
