Weird little guy...

The Enter key is a little tall.
-
Did any of you all notice the placement of Ctrl and Caps-lock?
-
And the back space/delete. It's not a standard layout by any means, but HHKB people might like it. Too bad it's missing a key cap.

I think the seller misidentified it, it looks like a Datalux:

That's a Datalux moguc. I've got it in gray with the trackpad.
-
Ahhhh...Data-LUX...
So how is it?

Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/DATALUX-MOGUC-KEYBOARD-WITH-GLIDEPOINT-TRACK-PAD_W0QQitemZ150417920453QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item23059b51c5) another one, with all its caps and a glidepoint trackpad. Only $10 ($20 with shipping).
Oops. No longer available. Somebody musta bought it....

Weird little board. Guess I'll have to wait to get it to see if it's got MEI or ML switches.
-
Gah. Doublepost.
-

So-so. The keys are linear and the raised Enter key takes a little getting used to. It does the job of putting a full 100+ key keyboard in a tiny space, so I can't say anything overwhelmingly negative about it, as it serves a special purpose. It's an oddity that's worth collecting, if that's your thing.

I found some here (http://cgi.ebay.com/DATALUX-MOGUC-KEYBOARD-WITH-GLIDEPOINT-TRACK-PAD_W0QQitemZ110514924538QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item19bb33ebfa).
-
You'll have my review in a few weeks, I suppose.
Edit: we'll see, actually. Requirement for immediate payment means I can't pay. Asked seller for an accommodation.

Same seller. He must have a bunch and just be putting them up one or a few at a time- he put up this listing after I bought the one I linked. There were some threads a few months ago for these boards at this price, but I don't know if it was the same seller.

That layout just seems to be a bit painfully stacked. 2 rows up top is fine, an entire keyboard up above a keyboard just is a bit much.

Hey guys, these go for $195 new and are still sold in modern USB versions.

Are the keys even mechanical?

It's been established, either earlier in this thread or in the previous correctly titled one, that they have some linear switch (MEI? something 3 letters with M)
I want it for the form factor, which is why I bought one. Expect a photographic breakdown.
-
These boards have a bad reputation here because of the switches, but I haven't tried one.
Well, the price was right. I guess we'll see.
I normally dislike linear switches but I'm curious to see what I end up with. Additionally it seems the trackpad is connected in the same pass-through technique as an M5-2 trackball, and it should be detachable from the case (since the same little trackpad module has been sold on its own by the manufacturer, Cirque) so I could be able to get use out of that if not the whole keyboard.
Edit: yeah, to be clear, I got the black $10 one, not the one in this thread.

WHOA! What is THIS? A keyboard exists that webwit has not used? STOP THE PRESSES!
-
No turning back now...it's been shipped.
-
It is a cute keyboard, but as I mentioned above it is designed for limited use in areas where space is a premium. The switches are linear, and have all the mushiness one would expect from that. I haven't been able to test out the glide-thingy as I lack serial ports on my current PCs.
The bottom line is that it looks cute alongside my other boards, is a great conversation piece, but isn't something you'd want to use for more than five minutes. Ever.
-
Linear != Mushy.
So are they linear, or are they mushy?
-
They're definitely on the mushy side; at least, mine is. The internals don't seem to be well mounted, so pushing on a key with any force makes the circuit board flex slightly. The glidepoint on mine is also poorly installed and looks as if a good bump would make it pop right off.

(not sarcastic) Excellent, that confirms my thought that the trackpad is a completely dedicated unit just attached like an M5-2 trackball (sort of).
So, definitely linear switches, but on account of bad PCB flex the feel is also mushy? Sounds excellent... (yes, this one was sarcastic)

Does yours have the MEI or the Cherry ML switches?

Another good (http://cgi.ebay.com/SVG-90S-Datalux-Space-Saver-Keyboard-TIDUB-Working_W0QQitemZ170409674199QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27ad3545d7) deal- and he's got two!

Good deal my ass.

Good deal my ass.
Did I forget the[sarcasm][/sarcasm] codes again? My bad...
-
Lmao.
Keep in mind I got mine for $10...
The payment on the Industrial Ms cleared. We'll see what I get...wish me luck.
-
Sweet jeebus. I got mine for 10-12 USD. That's about what it's worth ;)

Oh, poop. MEI switches.
18mm spacing, BTW. First impressions- without hooking it up (I'm lazy)- the keys are very heavy, compared to either my Cherry browns or blues. There does seem to be a bit of a tactile bump about 2/3 of the way down- I don't know if it's actually the actuation point or not (see previous sentence); I'll prolly hook it up tomorrow and play with it for awhile. It's small- really small. About half the width of my MX-8113 or a Model M. The layout's moderately weird, but I can see it working, once one gets used to it. I can see it greatly reducing hand motion- the numpad and Fn keys (and glidepoint) just require a slight stretch of my hands to reach, much less motion than most boards.
I'll put up a more complete review after I'vr used it for a bit.

The MOGUC is here.
-
It's AT/XT switchable - jumper is under the big 1 key.
There are a whole whack of diodes under the spacebar and the CTRL key (capslock on newer layouts...)
I plan to nkey test this eventually. Feel is awful but it's an interesting platform for mods.
Nonstandard size keys are Cherry MX compatible - I tested, they fit the blue MX switch ripster sent me.
Keyboard does not want to work on a USB converter but does function on my 286.
