Title: Are there popular 60% PCBs that deviate from the common USB connector placement?
Post by: ojrask on Sat, 27 January 2018, 16:37:38
I'm playing around with a 60% case design. I was wondering how many 60% PCBs there are that do not adhere to the GH60-style PCB layout (mainly concerned about the USB connector placement)?

I would like to make a case that has a single UCB connector cutout but if there are many different ones that are popular then I would have to consider making a second USB hole.

Ones I've seen that use the same layout base (have not measured but most of them have the USB connector at the top-left around 1cm from the left edge):

- GH60
- GH60 Satan
- DZ60
- KC60
- Sentraq 60%
- GK64
- GON NerD 60%
- FaceW 60%
- B.face 60%
- Zeal60

The case I'm working on would come with a dedicated top-mounted plate so mounting holes are not a concern for the PCB.

Zeal60 and NerD60 extend further than others, which is why there needs to be a cutout for it.

I see, thanks! But horizontally they are aligned the same as a GH60 for instance, I presume?

Yes, exactly half way between Esc and 1.

Viper and E6V2 center USB PCBs are interchangeable, but that's about it.

356mini also uses a non standard PCB.

Seems like custom koreans and the like want to stand out from the rest, which is not a bad thing IMO. Thanks for mentioning!

Any preview?

Just be aware that they don't have extras available in perpetuity, which is why I think the standard left USB design is so popular.

It is not exactly midway at least in GH60 and some pcbs which refer to de facto Poker X desgin faithfully. I don't know if this difference is important here, though.

Not yet, sorry. Still poking around a few ideas in my head and on paper. :)

I have a GH60 and a Satan60 at hand so I can measure. But making a connector hole wide enough to work with a few different designs should not be a problem I think. :)

I'm looking forward to it.
