Title: Odd, modular POS board with Cherry blacks
Post by: Nonmouse on Fri, 02 April 2010, 10:50:24
Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/Tipro-Customizable-POS-Keyboard-RM128A-26172-White_W0QQitemZ140342092068QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_2?hash=item20ad0a6124) kind of an interesting board- 128 programmable keys, each with four layers available.  The stock image in the auction is of the wrong board, though- the MID-RM128A is this board (image stolen from KBDMania):

Obviously, not a good layout for typing on.  However, since they are modular, they can be ganged together to create monsters like this 352 key Frankenboard (again, from KBD):

With four layers available, that's 1408 separate key functions on one board...

Here's (http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/review/1014582) the KBDMania page, and the Google translation (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ko&u=http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/review/1014582&ei=cYO1S_7MPIS0lQfi3u1q&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBAQ7gEwAQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3DMID-AM-RM128a%26num%3D30%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DRDa%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official) for those of us not fluent in Korean.

Shame the price is so high. Would be neat to have just for the sake of having for geeky projects and of course geek points.

I was thinking a kanji keyboard.  It'd take maybe six of them for commonly used Japanese. Make an interesting desktop.  =D   Not quite a drumtastic as Google Japan's (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=9350) version, though.

Of course, for traditional Chinese characters, you'd need something like a hundred boards...

Looks like a rebadged Cherry RC128.  Do not get this if you expect anything more than 2KRO.

But I wanted to hit all 352 keys at the same time! Waaah :(

Get your fingers to be more twitchy.  Or wire your nerves straight to the keyboard controller for a more true and universal NKRO.

My rubber-dome G86-63410 has more keys than I can assign to useful macros.

Can't remember if there's any difference, but mine is a Tipro MID KM128A. It has Cherry black switches, and so takes normal Cherry keycaps.

It's a Tipro. They're plate mounted and also available with a non-standard staggered layout.

Personally i like these column and row scheme of keys. What bothers me
is the uneven distribution of keys, ideally the number of keys for the left
and right hand should be the same..
