It also doesn't feel great knowing that the rules don't really matter if a moderator chooses that they don't like you
The rules on /r/mm are pretty clear. But I'm a bit shocked that you got a 5 day ban on a first infraction (if that is the case). Probably has to do with the volume of users currently on there these days. I remember when you'd only see maybe 100 active users. Now it's frequently close to 2,000

Did you give them a reason in the past to not like you?

With only ~100 new posts/day, I would be shocked if it's a volume issue.
There's no authority abused like petty authority.
...the rules specifically mention deleting a post and reposting it in a 48-hour period as a no-no.
"How could that be circumventing the rules if the rules discuss it exactly" I wondered.
Dude, Reddit is at quasi-cult status now.
Be careful or you'll be excommunicated and "marked".
Seriously though, that site is heavily infiltrated. Be careful what you post there.

Don't mind me, just taking the moderators for a walk.

Since my tone is in question,Ya, I'll stand by my previous statement. Best of luck to you.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/bw3WQor.png)
Do I make exaggerated statements? Yes. I was completely blind-sided by the 5 day ban part and wasn't really getting a clear explanation until you told me the rules don't matter lol.
But yeah nobody cares

Just make a new account,
Release IP, unplug router, unplug coax box / optic fiber box / ONT..
Then wait 10 minutes.. Plug everything back in..
Use a female account name, something stupid like G4m3rGi2L
They won't suspect a thing..
They'll even be nice to you and buy your stuff at terrible prices..
If they try to Hit on you, ask them to cough up a couple of Stone of Jordans first, before your fake relationship proceeds.
That's how stupid and vulnerable Male-Geeks in our hobby are..
If you want to go to the next level, Search online for some photos of moderately attractive women, then photoshop them slightly so tin-eye doesn't track them back..
Make sure not to pick anyone TOOO attractive, because Gamer-Geeks are self conscious and of low confidence, They have to be under the belief-state such that They have a shot..
Then create a facebook page.. and write in all the facts that attract hopeless men who play Vidya..
Like, Wow Clan member, raid specialist, FFantasy, write in your favorite mount, etc.. etc..
hahahahahahaahahah
Yeah the mods are drunk with power, but that is so often the case. What I really don't understand is the legion of domesticated dweebs they have over there that apparently have nothing better to do than to go around checking each post to make sure that it doesn't break a rule. Even if the issues are inconsequential or mistakes made in good faith, doesn't matter. They're like the old people at Del Boca Vista. Like sncbraxsc2, up there.
There's always ebay. I post to geekhack to try and find a kindred soul first, but if I can't sell something ebay usually does the trick.
I just can't stand admin abuse . . .If you want to stay sane, I'd recommend letting it go and taking consolation in that this is generally the only power those type of people will ever have.
Im not locking this thread, since it is in OT.And that, ladies and gentlemen, is an example of moderation done well.

When rules aren't broken, no moderation is needed. Funny that!Right. But he didn't go off on a power trip and say the rules don't matter and lock the thread anyway. This stands in stark contrast to the situation with the OP.
Just to be completely clear, in an alternate reality (which happens often) , it could've gone like this:
---
Nafs: You've been banned for breaking posting rules.
Op: Hey, sorry. Didn't realize that. I'll read up on the rules for next time.
Me: No worries, happens all the time. I'll drop the ban to a reposting warning so you can still play on the subreddit. Just sort it out before your next post.
---
This entire post is predicated on op's insistence to push a point. So not only has more time from the r/mm mod team been taken, now GH mods as well. Seriously, we are trading keyboard wares here, let's keep perspective and not act like I shot your dog.
Oh man. We're all wasting the admins time guys, they have waaaaay more important things to do. Nobody told you to come here, guy.

5 day ban and they're drunk with power. How could someone that upset over 5 days of not being able to post presume to imply that I have nothing better to do. Not sure why you think you're describing me. I've reported maybe 3 or 4 posts in about the same number of years.. Anyway, if I find a ****ty rant post laughably whining about people I know, I might just continue the ****ty rant post myself. :thumb:

Being banned isn't why I'm on GH though, so that's a bit of a stretch.

Okay, I didn't really want to post in this thread, but the "power hungry" comments are getting ridiculous. This situation is on the OP.
Hilariously accurateBased on your caricature of me, I thought it appropriate too.
Whether they are volunteering or not, admins deserve to have checks and balances or they can easily abuse their powers (which clearly happens quite a bit). This is completely incorrect. The site owner has entrusted the day to day operation and moderating of content to a group of individuals, who have the power to
remove/ban any user, at any time, and for any reasonI would image that r/mechmarket has similar leeway in how they handle their business.
admins are dictators and can never do wrongWe are all people, and make mistakes. Hell jacob even said
if you just would've handled it in a more kind fashion, I would've reversed the ban and we all could've gone on our merry wayHe admitted that he may not have handled it the correct way, but based his decision on your tone. I think we can all agree that you tend to be very brash when speaking to people. This may be a character trait, it may just be you thinking that you are above everyone. Not saying its a bad thing, but you should learn your environment before jumping in head first and being a **** all the time. Mechmarket mods are good people, and I generally trust their judgement, even if they make mistakes. Hell ive made mistakes, plenty of them. Thats how you learn and grow as a human being.
Give me a break, volunteer admins should not be this high-strung about how they're spoken to.You have obviously never been an admin/mod of a large community. I have kept an eye on every reply to this thread to make sure things dont get out of hand. Do you think I have nothing better to do than read these comments? I can promise you I do. But i made an agreement to uphold the site rules and ensure that the site is safe for all users, not just ones that rant on for days since they were banned from a different site. I should have removed this thread from the get go. Reddit drama doesnt need to spread to geekhack. They are two different animals and two vastly different communities, but it was in OT so I allowed it.
Keep in mind that when the mod said that he and r/mm's other mods don't like people questioning their bans, this was not the same as forbidding the OP from asking questions about his ban. The mod just meant that they don't like users arguing about them and pushing their point.
It's in Off-Topic, none of you are being forced to read any of this. You don't need to respond or acknowledge a single thing I say, its called a rant for a reason. I wasn't going to bring this up on reddit because well, I'd probably just get further time added to my ban. I brought it here because I know there are plenty of people who would discuss this issue and likely share their own stories of admin abuse from the mechmarket mods (which many did, interesting.) Whether they are volunteering or not, admins deserve to have checks and balances or they can easily abuse their powers (which clearly happens quite a bit). My goal was to expose the ridiculously petty nature of my interaction with the mods and call them out on their abuse in a public forum so that maybe next time they think about the repercussions of their willy-nilly bans.
Jacobsmirror became a moderator only 5 months ago on mechmarket, and he's already expressed some of the worst qualities to have as a neutral moderator. Its laughable to think that if I had kissed his ass in a private message that he would've erased the random over-the-top ban that he gave me. Not only that, but because I didn't become passive and put my tail between my legs, he threw another 5 day ban on top. Those of you who are defending this clear abuse of power are only helping to further the notion that admins are dictators and can never do wrong.
As visitors to a website, we are expected to follow the rules set by the site owner (in this case the MM mods) without question. This is not what is at issue here, I'm aware that I broke a rule. The punishment for breaking this rule is laid out pretty clearly in said rules, and yet my situation called for a much harsher punishment than what is very plainly explained in the rules. I asked - in an extremely neutral way - why I was treated so harshly for such a simple mistake. Obviously because I didn't apologize right off the bat, I'm clearly a jerk and should be banned even longer for just asking why. Give me a break, volunteer admins should not be this high-strung about how they're spoken to.
You banned me for such a petty reason and I called you out on it. The explanation you gave for the ban initially was insanely contradictory and I asked what you meant by that because it made no sense. At no point was I disrespectful toward the mods, and mostly just frustrated with the lack of a clear explanation. And then he drops the bomb - the admins are above the rules! Ah, now it all makes sense.
Once again I appreciate these comments, its the only way we will ever have a discussion about this kind of thing.
I brought it here because I know there are plenty of people who would discuss this issue and likely share their own stories of admin abuse from the mechmarket mods (which many did, interesting.)
uhm...you got me confused here what’s the difference between forbidding and dont like to be argued?
I might be in the wrong on a couple of minor points, but the fact that this has sparked this type of discussion and response from multiple admins proves there is merit in my claims, no matter how many times you try to deny it.
This is not isolated, and I'm not the only one who feels this way by a long shot.

Discussing a claim doesn't give it merit. In what world does this logic apply? I can discuss the earth being flat until I'm blue and it'll still be without merit.QuoteThis is not isolated, and I'm not the only one who feels this way by a long shot.
It is isolated though. You're very few of thousands. I'd say the ratio is pretty damn good

Why did you choose to use that example lol
Discussing the earth being flat does have merit, because there are people who actually do believe that to be the truth - and on the flip side of that coin, there are those who do not believe the earth is flat and will engage in discourse with the flat-earther's in order to convince them that they are wrong. This is what merit is. "Deserve or be worthy of (something, especially reward, punishment, or attention)". I have garnered attention from a multitude of viewpoints, especially those with opposing viewpoints. Thus, my claims have merit.
And I'm not just talking about the people that posted here when I said this is not isolated.
Kinda shocked this thread hasn't been locked or died yet.. TP did you bring the organic popcorn! you can eat popcorn right?

Honestly the biggest reason would be out of curtsy of Mech Market and its mods. I would think the reverse would be true if someone was banned/temp banned/ warned on Geekhack. Then went to R/ Mechanical Keyboard's to vent about it. It does make for entertaining soap box reading thought, I won't lie.
Why would that be courteous? Like these things are never supposed to be talked about? These guys willingly came in here and responded, if this hurts their reputation its their own fault.
Fine by me! I'm not ashamed of the things I say. If I didn't say it, nobody would :POn behalf of Geekhack, we would like to thank you for speaking out on these matters, where no one else could. /s

Making a slander thread about being rightfully banned, and then blame them for coming and in and responding? So if I make a thread called "totallycaked is an entitled ***" linking to this thread, Im the one creating discussion and you are the one hurting your reputation? If you only would like closure on the matter you could have locked the thread when jacobsmirror answered, but it seems like the answer doesn't fit your personal agenda.Fine by me!
