Title: Hello from Ottawa
Post by: phorx on Wed, 07 February 2018, 10:46:48
Hello Everyone,

I've been using a Leopold FC200RT TKL with Cherry browns for several years and decided it's time to try my hand at building my own keyboard.  Starting from basically zero knowledge, there's lots to learn and this community has been a great resource so far.

I'm a software guy by trade, so I've never soldered anything before in my life.  I was sure to order a few cheap "learn to solder" kits so I don't learn on a precious PCB or anything, but I'm a bit intimidated by it nonetheless.

My interest is in building a 75%, TKL, or similar sized board from a kit that includes a PCB.  No way am I ready to try hand-wiring for my first build, but I have deep respect for people that can do it.  Actually, a kit that can replicate a build like this  https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=75880.0 (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=75880.0) would be my absolute ideal.

Welcome from Ottawa!

The soldering isn't as difficult as it's made out to be. De-soldering is more tricky but still manageable.

Can always have a go at it at one of the MakerSpaces around town.
