Title: Low res laptop cam

Do they do this on purpose because they think we're too ugly for  HD ?

For a while, I thought it must be,  then I thought, maybe cost,  but then I see brand new laptops this year with 1m pixel cams, and think.. it must be again

I was just hoping we'd get dat 1080p conference call in 2017.. buh, still blurry cam.

Depends on the laptop. All of mine have "good enough" cameras for conferencing/chatting, not that I use it much anyways.

Maybe they are generally just good enough to show someone's face while they are sitting directly in front of the laptop.

Unless you want to see each pore and each hair follicle, you wouldn't need too high a resolution.

They're just being cheap - it's not a selling feature for most people. And people are too easily impressed with the look and feel, than actual performance or functionality.

It's funny, a lot of new laptops have low mounted cams, all the better to look right up your nose. Yay.
On the other hand,  the Iphone X has a 7megapixlel selfie camera.

While I initially bashed the X for having a 7Mp selfie camera, why are we still using 1.3Mp, what's the price difference between a 1.3Mp and 7Mp these days, probably pennies when bought in bulk. And is it really that hard to figure out I don't need to do a booger check on all of my coworkers.
