Title: Compact Portable Bluetooth Keyboard
Post by: Mr. Glass on Wed, 28 February 2018, 10:33:17
Hello,

I am traveling more often for work lately and am starting to feel the pain of the poor ergonomics of leaning over a laptop. In the past, I have traveled with an old version of this keyboard

and I like the feel of the keys, but need to pull the batteries out each time to keep it from turning on in my backpack and have come up with a laughable process of putting it into a case within a 3-ring binder to keep it from bending further. It now wobbles when placed on a flat surface.

Do any of you have a compact, preferably folding bluetooth travel keyboard that you really love the feel of?

Regarding feel, for reference I am typing this on a Das keyboard, which I really like, I also like the keyboard of my MacBook, but I am not fond of the keys on my 2017 Lenovo X270 that I use for work.

Does something like this [with the addition of bluetooth] still exist? I used one constantly from about 2000 until around 2006 or so with various PDAs:

Here are the top recommendations from Wirecutter, but none seem all that compact

If I had something that I could throw into the pocket of cargo shorts and also use sometimes with my cellphone that would be ideal.

I talk about all this with friends and they roll their eyes, but feel that you folks here at Geekhack get where I am coming from when it comes to being very picky about keyboards  :)

Anything that's moveable away from the laptop will feel better..

You wouldn't want an aluminum shell, because of the weight.  just get a cheapie non-branded tkl,  they're like $20 these days on amazon.

Thank you for your reply. As there are a number of options in this category on Amazon, I hoping someone here, who is equally as selective, might be able to advise on a particular model that they really like. Folding is ideal, though I am open to a static portable keyboard.

For $28,  you can get one of these..

Budget wireless keyboards are notoriously bad, either lags, or disconnects, you want to stay away from those.

Thank you each for your replies. I am looking for something that is more portable and thinner than these yet has good build quality and tactile feel. I have to imagine that if my old Targus Handspring Visor keyboard was available more 10 years ago with its solid quality, that there must be something these days that is built well. I don't mind investing more $100 or even above $200 for that matter, if it works really well.

I've yet to feel up any thin-boards with good tactility.
