If the World of Warcraft people ever bring out a keyboard (they already have a mouse and headset) they should use ClickClack's keys, or maybe get him on the design team.

I think you should make a choice: Either 1) sell these limited edition to the geekhack members here, and then ceremonially destroy the molds, or 2) think big ("panic key") and sell a couple of million and retire to your own island in the Caribbean. I think I prefer 1. Makes it more exclusive.

I can see sooo much potential here for creative and interesting keyboard caps...and for that matter...outside of the keyboard caps area too...
I would definitely be interested in a complete set (or two) of keycaps for the HHKB (Pro, of course). One of my biggest pet peeves is that you can't get white keycaps with all the keys the same color...the modifier keys are always grayish. What I want is a white set for the HHKB. Of course, I'd be interested in some of the caps having some custom design and/or bright colored esc and WASD keys.
If you were able to do printing, that would be cool (imagine the URL for geekhack on the front side of the space bar). :)

Have you considered doing double-shot arrow keys? I read that you're not focusing on keys with legends right now, but I would think the arrows and maybe number pad keys would be hot sellers. I just bought a cherry G80 loaded with a lot of ugly relegendable caps, and I'd love to replace them with some of your creations.

That HHKB "Surf Board" sounds perfect, since my rig is ocean themed with etched glass. I'd originally expected to be primarily after key Filco Majestouch keys, but this is even more tempting.

These keys are very interesting (more interesting every day, especially with the wacky colours you came up with). You could experiment with some glow in the dark plastics, that seems up your alley.

For what it is worth, with the alu caps I like the non sandblasted ones better than the sandblasted caps. The sandblasted caps are very pretty, but.. it loses a bit of that natural material thing going on - its essence.

Yeah I really dig the color and colors of Ti too. It's a slightly warm silver (color wise) I would call it the "french grey" of the silver tones.
A full set would indeed be cheaper (still really expensive) but I still have to work our by how much. Although I think having them accented would look really cool too. Especially with a design on them.

It's both... well sort of...
The keycap as you see it is Grade 2 CP (commercially pure). One of the inside interchangeble stems happenes to be Ti-6AL-4V. Which was salvaged from my first titanium test key.

Polish Percy In Your Palm is dirty. Polish Alu Keys is not although probably dangerous to your health.
Is the 6Al-4V significantly more difficult to cast? Because the Grade 2 would wear much more easily than the Grade 5, I'd think...

Rings of .045" or .056" Grade 2 CP show noticeable wear within a year or less on keychains or the like, while Grade 5 takes at least a couple years for wear to be noticeable. Ti's tough, but it's not miracle metal- even stainless shows significant wear on keychains after a few years. And, come to think of it, I've seen industrial keyboards with stainless keys that had noticeable mechanical wear.

I would go with structural, textural, and cosmetic. I didn't reallise you were taking the conversation as definitive as you are. Yes everything can wear, and WILL wear for the most part. But within reason obviously, I mean why would an industrial keyboard even have stainless keys? Well, probably because they need to.

Yup, I was talking cosmetic or textural wear, for the most part. But I think that's usally what people worry about on keyboards- it pretty rare to see actual structural damage to a keycap. It's usually just getting shiny or the lettering wearing (partially) off that people ***** about.
I agree- nobody's likely to wear through a keycap, but I can see (Grade 2) Ti keys getting very shiny and smoothed down pretty quickly.
I was really just tossing out my 2¢ worth- that if Grade 5 isn't significantly more difficult to cast, it'd be a better option (IMO). Over-engineering's always better than under-engineering.

It's a titanium keycap for heavins sake it's already obnoxiously over egineered, silly =PPoint. But there's over-engineering, and then there's IBM-engineering.
You could also look at it from this perspective (and I am, and I see that you're not), I would rather have it in pure titanium because of an elegant ideal. Not so much for the worlds strongest most ultimate indestructable militaristic bullet proof item. I guess its the fine art background in me and the want for a more consistent universal workflow.No, I just see it from a different angle. For one thing, "commercially pure" isn't really pure titanium, anyway- Grade 2 is nearly 1% other elements. Even Grade 1 (which would be closer to the ideal) is about .5% adjuncts.

I would like to see transparent toughened glass double shots with coloured legends, to enable vision of coloured stems of the Cherry/ALPS kbds. Maybe the horizontal part of the cap to be frosted, only the slanted sides to be transparent. It's possible ? Or possibly some form of scratch-resistant transparent plastics.

Titanium keycap! I finally finished the prototype! YAY!!!! =) It took so long because it's a two part keycap. I designed It so I could test it with Topre, Cherry, ALPS, and Model M switches. In this photo it has the Topre/HHKB back. If I choose to make a limited number of them they would be a one piece key except for perhaps a Model M version, we shall see. I don't think there will be key wear on this one! =P. This one is semi polished but I will try a sandblasted one later when I have the time.

Although the whiter one does look just like a man-made ice cube, I prefer the greener one because it looks more like real ice in huge glaciers, or old, undisturbed ice from some long-forgotten age.

I'll assume the time is spent perfecting your product and continue to be patient. Thick juicy steak key does look nicer than uniformly lean strip steak keys. I guess it is going to be a while before I can get a Topre GeekHack key.

Im looking at the thickness of those keys and wondering what effect it will have on the keyboard sound, namely the bounceback noise.
I would figure something thicker wouldnt vibrate as much when it springs back upwards perhaps quieting it some.

As far as suggestions go, if you could make more heavily sculpted keys for Model M and with a smoother surface (factory shined, so to say), it could resemble the XT keyboard more.
I also think a full set of gun metal keys would look great. Man's man's keyboard, so to say.

Since keycaps change the feel of a keyboard, they must be able to change the weighting as well. Have people found that changing keycaps can make a big difference in the weighting of your keyboard? Is it possible you could tailor your keyboard's weighting exactly to your liking by simply changing the keycaps?
Usually not enough to tell, but I think some of the folks that have the metal caps said that it changes the feel a little. Cherry vs. Filco, for example, doesn't change the feel (from a weight perspective) at all, but other aspects, like sound, change due to the thickness differences.
Maybe not from a RipOmeter viewpoint but definitely ...feels different AND sounds different.[/URL]
I should mention that this WILL become apparent after the DoubleShot group buy of Signatures keys as well. Signatures are thinner/lighter than the Filco/Das.
And the Metal ones MAY have some inertial effects. Feels just a bit "deader" to me.

They can but by what degree is debatable.
Off the top of my head I would say the average mechanical key cap is around 1g and mine are 2g
So even if you have a 45g rated mechanical switch the effort your fingers notice will be very subtle at best. However your ears do indeed play a part in your perception of a switch as well as the subtle vibration difference in your finger tips. Once you get to about 3g-4g like metal (aluminum) keys and 7-9g like my Heavy metal keys you notice it more. But at that point it's more like driving 10 penny nails into your keyboard haahaaaa! XD

Of course people have a strong reaction to skulls, not necessarily positive. I think it is more about culture around death, than Singaporean culture, specifically. People in general have a strong reaction to someone wearing all black even non goth/punk/etc., which is a lot less scary than say someone carrying around a skull.
Eh, I'll just conjecture people with an issue with skulls don't like people or fear death or something.
At least we know Latin culture likes skulls.

True, I don't want a whole keyboard full of skulls, but accents are fine and the skulls provide interesting tactility. Also, given Clickclack makes more than skulls, if you don't like them, don't buy them, there are clearly going to be plenty of other options.

That's something I was always wondering myself, but never bothered to post. If by adding enough grams does it reduce the resistance of the switch. In other words does enough weight correlate to reduced switch resistance.
Like say a 6g triple-shot PoM key cap would it literally reduce switch resistance by 6g.

I think TI is popular for replacement joints because of its biocompatibility. Niobium might be an interesting choice; it's used for body jewelry for the same reason, and can be given all kinds of interesting colors with anodisation...
...Bismuth is a cool choice too. Its low melting point means you can cast things over your kitchen stove, and it's pretty non-toxic, in spite of its notorious neighbors in the periodic table. Its high density, low toxicity and low melting point make it a good replacement for lead in many applications....
...Tungsten would be an even heavier choice (70% heavier than lead), but it's really difficult to work with. It's used in jewelry though, so I assume it would be non-toxic enough for a keyboard....
...Silver would be very pretty and anti-bacterial, but I suppose pretty high-maintenance.
Gold, people, gold! I can already see the nickel (Ni) coatings for metal keys that are highly toxic though. They are everywhere.
However Ti is a very good material, steel too. Unless it comes from Sovjet Russia and is radioactive.
I thought those keys would weigh a bit more than 1g though.
I'd like to see some wooden keys too! There are many, heavy timbers (whatever, no english pro here), some black, some have a nice dark color and a good looking structure.
Ebony or purpleheart keys would kick ass.

Why would gold need to be coated with something? Its just not as hard as other metals, but its basically resistant to everything.

Umm... Clicklack, I heard you mention gold-plated silver. I actually like silver more than gold (it's a function of the market only really, there were times and places where silver was more precious than gold). I think I would love such a keyboard. Especially if you could make it look like fatigued, dirty silver. Imagine the touch of an old coin. Cleanable with cigarette ash mixed with lemon squeezed juice (I used to collect coins). Copper could be fun too, especially when it takes the patina. Finger sweat would do the rest (the keys would soon look like a 1 cent coin circulating since 1950).

Some keys with such things as a hatchery icon, overlord image or drone could be fun to put on their respective hotkeys.

The ice keys are unique looking. Imagine doing a Model M look out of them, where the white keys are done in clear ice and the grey keys(modifiers and such) are done in green ice. There's been a lot of vague talk about these being really expensive though, so maybe that would cost to much? They are in preproduction form, essentially they are ready for production fabrication if things go well this round (crosses fingers).Releasing them in WASD sets would be awesome (as long as Topre is including so I can get a couple sets for my HHKB's). ;)

EK has a great reputation here, as well as a website already setup for ecommerce and a fedex account with discounted rates. While GeekHack has been right beside Majestouch since the beginning, his business has spread beyond just us. If you want a filco or topre and you live in the US, his site is probably the first place you'll end up. I don't know if it's a consignment deal or if Majestouch bought the whole batch and is reselling them, but either way, it seems like a partnership that is beneficial for not only clickclack and Majestouch, but also the customers.
Releasing them in WASD sets would be awesome (as long as Topre is including so I can get a couple sets for my HHKB's). ;)

These keycaps are great. I really like the see-through "ice" ones and the splat ones. Can't wait til you get some of those out, while the skulls are well done, I like flatter keys.

As happy as I was to read in the EliteKeyboards newsletter that your keys were on sale, I was disappointed to see them dropping Filco. I suppose they are going to be replaced by Ducky? I'm sure this has already been discussed at great length here.

It's OK, we're already sure it's Leopold. Namely due to the meta tags on EliteKeyboards starting with the word "Leopold" when they used to start with "Filco".

Test-Sample #J11TG-s5A has landed in Europe.
Clickclack calls these "crude prototype", he must clearly be smoking something... must be from all that plastic fumes! These are some of the highest quality and most sexy looking keys I have ever seen. That is really all I can say now, I am resisting hard not to unzip my pants.
I got some more but will wait for better shots with illuminated keys within the upcoming days. I'm still working on getting the white LEDs to work. This should be enough to get everyone excited anew in the meantime.

brightness of the LEDs wouldn't be something that clickclack could control... that would be up to you :P he doesn't know what LEDs you have in your board, or what board you even own. If you need to adjust the brightness of the LED, look into replacing the LED, or consider taking off the keycap, and covering the LED in Sharpie, etc.

How well do those clear keys take (acid) dye? (Rit/etc) Being able to do custom colored backlit cherry keys would be perfect xD
I wonder how well imprecise screening works with Rit. I doubt you could screen something like negative letters (dye all of the key except the letter, basically tg3 style keys, minus the sublimation part) on very well at home, but maybe some less defined patterns... must google. I realize that Rit or something similar probably won't be opaque even with most darker colors, but that's actually ideal in some ways. Assuming you don't end up with the dyed part looking mottled when illuminated, if translucent.

So i just got two more skull keys from EK and have noticed something... These keys fit very well on my switches but it has made me realize the first skull guy I got awhile ago is a little off. the mx mount is too big basically, it just sits on the switch and comes off very very easily. The new ones I ordered fit snuggly, and perfectly. Was this an error that you have since fixed? Or just something wrong with me key?

What are the chances of some ICE/Other custom lock light keys? There is currently a market for them in Ducky owners, and I am sure the market will only grow with the addition of Leopolds to the US. If you make them, I will buy them!

Would LOVE to have a yellow skull for A (attack) and a red skull for H (hold position), which is my default hand position, or maybe F and J for home row index fingers. The options are endless. :)
But yeah...mostly want the ice keys right now, though the different colored blood splats are high on my list too. So many awesome ideas that I can't wait for. :):)

As of now, I'm considering a Deck 82 or Legend(I'm on a Saitek Cyborg and love the lighting), and I would definitely want to get my hands on some of those cobalt or titanium caps, especially if they had lettering on them, or if there was an opaque lettering embedded into them to let the light through.

Legit. Pure titanium and or pure aluminum keycaps. All the metal keycaps posted on this site are completely metal just with different looks in regards to blasting or polishing, it's not plastic or any painting.
