I forgot about those stupid IBM chiclet keyboards. I hate chiclet so much! But for the "I got to have it all IBM nerd" there you go!

It has ifrared... my thinkpad has ifrared... hmmm.

infrared.

There are PCjr enthusiasts out there who can derive much greater enjoyment and use out of these than us. I realize nobody here cares since there's a certain amount of vintage-hate lately, but out of respect for the people who arguably need them more than we do...unless you've got a PCjr, don't bid.

Nonsense, let's buy a load of Model Fs so we can rip off the logos and stick them on rubber dome keyboards!

Plenty of museums with the old one.

I'm a collector. Not everything new is good, and not everything old is bad. That said, I have both versions... the much maligned chicklet version, and the revised version. Both are pretty ****ty keyboards, in all honestly, but they look good alongside the rest of my collection, and I had a fun time poking around inside them looking for petrified board chow.

Interestingly, the two boards are nearly identical. The top half of the plastic casing was changed to accommodate keys, but the circuit board, rubber membrane, and back half of the casing are unchanged.

Apple loved the IBM pc jr keyboard so much they thought they would imitate it in their junk.

Personally, as far as laptop keyboards are concerned, I don't mind the MB/P keyboard.  I actually even like it a tad better then the thinkpad keyboards I've owned.

That being said, I can't remember the last time I laid hands on my MBP's keyboard (use a Filco mini at home and a HHKB on the go).

I've come to appreciate these kind of keyboards as perfectly fine keyboards myself... they're not what I prefer by a longshot, but they wouldn't prevent me from buying a laptop with this type of key. I'm also realizing that the very flat chiclet keyboard that I got with my Mac tower is pretty comfortable to use laid flat on a table, though not so when placed on my keyboard tray.

It all depends on how you use 'em and you have to give yourself a chance to get used to it. Hold your nose, use one for a full day and you'll probably think it's not the end of the world from then on.
