Title: [IC]Compact-Mini
Post by: yasintahir on Thu, 22 March 2018, 11:57:08
So i just got crazy idea in my head atm.
This layout would be a bit smaller than TKL size but will have compact layout.
Here's detail of layout :

What to do? :
- Find name for this board
- Fix layout(if needed)
- Designing case
- Prototyping
- Groupbuy Phase

I have idea for case design too and design would be like "Tank" but i'm still finish with the bottom case design with 60% size, because i want to run it for 60% before and decided to make it for another layout.
This case will be look alike

Keyboard specification :
- QMK/TMK programmable
- USB Type-C
- Underglow led
- Alu 6061/6065
- Bluetooth? (But it will increase price as well)

PS:
- I need to remake design case especially feet design because it doesn't look like wheel tank as i thought.
- I want make this keyboards as cheap as possible maybe around ~$250 shipped

So any idea and suggestion would be help a lot!

I know this would be even more unconventional, but a left-side numpad would be really interesting. Part of the appeal of small keyboards is making space to move your mouse hand closer to the center of your body. Even many lefties I know use a mouse on the right side, so a left-side numpad would be helpful in retaining that feature.

Seconded on the lefthand numpad.

If you're interested in moving the numpad, also consider mirroring the layout. That was a point of discussion for both my own project as well as emenelopee's recently completed project. MNLOP's wasn't mirrored but translated where I'm planning to mirror mine (or at least give the option). Neither of us were sure which is the way to go, but I definitely think it's worth considering!

Interesting idea but to be blunt, I think there's too much emphasis on form at the expense of function.

If it's need moved to left i think why we don;t we make it smaller again like 70% maybe?

Yes Alumunium is my option.

Interesting idea but to be blunt, I think there's too much emphasis on form at the expense of function.

I think still the best way to make it comfortable when type on it too.

Because the numpad is still useful for some people (if that picture is what you're updating your design to). It's not that big of a deal to me, I just really like seeing a left-hand numpad because of how uncommon they are.
