ALPS key cap set: black blanks?
Want to replace the double-shot grey and white key caps with a set of blank black caps but my google-fu has failed me and I can't find anywhere that supplies them.
-
To the best of my knowledge, there is no one who makes them. Your best bet is to get the ones you have at the moment and dye them, there's plenty of guides for that around here.
-
I'm a New Zealander, we don't have friends in Australia! Think in terms of Dutch and Belgians, Canadians and New Foundlanders, Americans and Canadians...
Sand blasting won't do a lot of good on double-shot caps.
Seems almost a sin to dye double-shot key caps - no matter how old and yellowed they may be - given the respect they garner hereabouts. I'm scared that if I dyed 'em, I'd get even more rotten fruit, bricks and stones hurled at me from people here than I'd get for the above dig at the Dingo-molesters "next door"...
-
OK, so new approach: Where do I find cheap crappy black ALPS key caps with printed-on letters that I can sandblast off?
P.S. somewhat mollified that there are no black blanks for ALPS, my faith in my google-fu has been restored as there is no shame in failing to find something that doesn't exist...
-
I think you mean Canadians and Quebecers.

You could take a black Dell AT101W and type on it... and by all acounts, the lettering will come off soon enough.

Just going by the impression I'd gathered. A Canadian I knew told me that the standard butt-of-all-jokes was "the Newfie" and told me pretty much the same jokes my Dutch friends have told about Belgians, English tell about Irish and we tell about Aussies.
"How many Irishmen/Belgians/Newfies/Aussies does it take to change a light bulb?" etc.
Not racial hatred, per se, just good-natured fun-poking with insinuations of their relative stupidity and inclinations to animal-based deviancy...

There's a few black AT101W on US ebay, but I dont think they ship abroad.

:pound: PMSL! Sounds like the "Rock" keyboard I'm typing on at the moment - another good reason for learning to touch-type!

Don't suppose anyone has a stack of black Dell AT101W key caps they want to trade for a stack of rather aged double-shot white and greys - the postage for just the caps shouldn't be too steep, a smallish standard post carton should be sufficient if properly packed.
-
My "black" AT101W looks more off black or dark charcoal to me. That might look odd on a truly black board or even a beige board.
You might want to pick up an ABS M1. Of course, $50 is not cheap.

Keep an eye on ClickClack's thread (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=9456).

Thanks, iMav.
Technically, for my purposes, I only need the square keys, not any of the longer ones. About 80 of them.
78 normal blank black keys and two black skull keys would suit me fine - let's see me fail to feel them home keys, LOL.

I'm a bit upset that you guys are getting rid of all the sheep and substituting cows.
Now you're beginning to sound like an Australian... :P
