Title: Help identifying board
Post by: TapewormCommander on Tue, 27 March 2018, 09:27:22
Hi everyone,

I've been looking after Focus/Asian 101 layout keyboards (since I'm running Linux full time now), and managed to find this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O9BBEvklZdZTrs_5Sd9dNYeTIoKGn9jN/view?usp=sharing

The author says the following:

"I'm selling 2 Malaysian PC keyboards with a stratified (???) circuit board and arc/spring keys, not like these nowadays that get ruined because of the silver foil (???). Both are from 1996, 100% functioning, and if they get broken, their keys can be replaced (this is where I'm calling BS). They have 'racks' jack."

As you can all guess, I can barely understand what this woman means, thus the deal seems shady, but if she isn't lying, I might buy it.

Looks like rubber domes to me. I'm thinking she might be talking about foam and foil switches, which are capacitive and use springs under the keys.

I live in Romania, if this helps anyone. (Eastern Europe-only keyboard, maybe?)

Looking at the keycaps, they somewhat remind me of a slider-over-membrane design but I can't be sure. Can you at least get an image of the back? Might be able to tell more if I can see the back, especially if it has a label.

Left: Mitsumi KPQ-E99ZC (https://deskthority.net/wiki/Mitsumi_KPQ-E99ZC) (or variant thereof)
Right: Chicony KB-5911 (http://www.utensilia.tk/chicony_kb-5911/) (or variant thereof)

Buckling rubber sleeve and rubber dome respectively.

The right one (with winkeys) is almost certainly a Chicony rubber dome.

I'm fairly confident the left one is a Mitsumi with "hybrid" switches (probably rubber sleeve over membrane, but might have a spring instead of the sleeve or foam&foil instead of the membrane).
