Title: Qtronix KT-30 with presumably Aristotle switches
Post by: Ejusdemgeneris on Tue, 03 April 2018, 05:48:57
The "Mighty Keyboard" label is missing but the keyboard itself looks very similar to the KT 30. Can anyone confirm this for me?
I thought KT 30 always comes with cherry MX blue, but apparently, it is not necessarily the case. o.O

Could you please measure the spacebar length if possible?

It might be iOne (the company which owns Qtronix/Qumax) which would explain the small discrepancy. iOne has also been the OEM for many companies over the years, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Aristotle switches are very common with Qtronix boards, much more so than MX Blues.

If you get a closer look at the housing that would definitely be useful:
The differences between the Aristotle housing and cherry often is quite apparent:
1. Cherry housing often has cherry written across the top of the housing, Aristotle switches have a similar square area with nothing written in it
2. LEDs Cherry switches even some old ones have LED mounts they are in middle, where as aristoles have them to but are to the sides
3. Cherry housing near the logo often have a little but noticeable circular gap where as aristoles don't,
4. Cherry housing and Aristole housing are different, cherrys have a more matt finish on their housing aristoles have more of glossy housing

My two cent on the matter would be that they are probably cherry clear or some strange variant of cherry switch like the cherry orange switch (if so
pick it up because these switches can sell for quite a bit of money)

Also some not so great pictures but  still might help :)

so in conclusion the main way of identifying switches is by looking at the housing

Also I think it is a Qtronix KT-30, possibly due to the switches and no label a prototype of some description explaining why it looks exactly the same but with no label and different test switches :) :thumb:

The switches are definitely Aristotles - the shell matches exactly (just zoom in on the image).

Yeah their aristoles for sure they match the shell and their glossy, might I recommend desoldering them and making gateron aristoels or zealostles very nice switches but be carful when making them can break switches leaf mechanism if not carful.

Oh and by the way - this is definitely a Qtronix board. The LED cover matches exactly with all of the Qtronix/iOne boards I've seen in the past.

Do you think its a prototype because its missing the signs of the usual board and the date stickers and the different switches to the usual boards?

Like I said, Qtronix was one of the biggest buyers of Aristotle switches. The only other company that comes to mind in terms of quantity would be Chicony.

Fair enough :)

It was a photo from the seller. I will take more pictures, but it is probably going to be one month later or so since I have it shipped to my home address rather than my uni accommodation address. Initially I was going to disassemble it and take the switches, but the keyboard seems to be rarer than I first thought.

It's only rare so far as Qtronix boards typically don't have a trackball but Qtronix is a dime a dozen. I wouldn't feel to bad about scavenging the switches, though I wouldn't toss the rest of it as someone would definitely be able to use it.

The mystery keyboard has Windows keys, making it newer, and therefore more likely to have cut costs on switches, as well as accounting for other variations.
