Title: lost topre stabilizer spring
Post by: billm on Mon, 30 April 2018, 17:09:53
Hey Guys-
Just got my realforce 86u back from a friend that borrowed it for a year or so, and I went to clean it and the stabilizer spring flew out when I pulled the spacebar off.

Anybody know where to get another one? Not even sure if they're unique, or if I could just find something at the hardware store.

It's in here somewhere. I'll have to crawl every inch of the floor.

Just as with women, you can always get another one.

I went over every inch of this room with a rolling magnetic pickup. Nothing. The spring is magnetic too, I tested on one from a different board. I wonder if it got stuck in the dog's fir and she deposited it elsewhere...

I don't think you understand what misogyny means.

Woo! Found it. Removed all the rugs and furniture from the room, and rolled over it with the magnetic pickup again, and there it was.

It means that you don't think that the Ghostbusters (2016) remake is a good movie. :-þ

LOL to be honest, I was gonna say just use it without the spring.  For every Topre keyboard I owned, the first thing I do is always take out the spring.

It just makes the spacebar too heavy and I like the 45g weight.  :thumb:

One of my other hobbies is firearms where there are also a lot of springs that can go flying when dissassembling/cleaning.  I've learned that for certain things I go into the hallway with wooden floors to work on it.  If anything goes flying there's nowhere for it to hide :).

Funny, later that day when I posted here thanks for the ebay link, I found the spring from my HHKB in a keycapbox after searching months for it! So maybe this is a feature of that thread? Posting missing things and finding them magically afterwards?

Hm, I remember doing the same why I removed it once, but now with the spring and freshly greased stabilizers the spacebar is totally smooth and awesome.
