Title: Unicomp model M broken
Post by: aapje on Tue, 08 May 2018, 08:06:27
My 2015 unicomp keyboard just died. They keyboard resfused to work so I plugged it back in again. The USB device was not functioning according to the device manager. I disabled en re-enabled the device and it worked again for a few seconds. Then a message popped up saying USB device not recognized.

It also won't work on another PC. I removed the casing and the wires look fine. I removed the little PCB en and plugging everything back in. Also peeled some of the cable. There are no broken wires visible. Can I order a new USB cable somewhere?

This is my second unicomp keyboard dying within a few years with hardly any use. So far I'm not really impressed by the quality  :'(

Sounds like you need a new controller, have you thought letting unicomp or it's distributor to repair it?

Yep. I had a model M that was doing that and I had to replaced the internal controller card. Easy to do.

Unfortunately model M controller are incompatible with unicomp's usb membrane so you need to order a new usb controller through, otherwise is a 1 minute job. I guess that'll save you a lot of shipping cost if you do it you self.

Yes, good point. There are differences within versions of the model Ms too. So you have to be sure to order the right thing.

That's weird,  these are low power devices.. hrrrmm.. Does your house circuit have an Earth Pin,  or do you live in a country where it's just 2 prong.
