It's weird, one could eat a box of donuts, and not feel full.I think it has to do with how dense a bagel is compare to a donut, plus most of the time you have some sort of cream cheese with it, so that's why it feels more filling, but a good bagel with a good cup of coffee is always good, but it's no donut though haha.
Yet, eat at most 2 and a half bagels, before heavy breathing ensues..Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/10theJm.gif)

Long John... but it MUST be filled with bavarian cream
krispy kremes are pretty good too but if we had one around where I live I could see them getting meh....
You must me the yin to my yang, because I was going to say long johns but ONLY with custard, no cream.
There is a local place here called Marge's Donut Den and their long johns, apple fritters, old fashioned chocolate, and red velvet donuts are incredible. Honestly, I think the biggest regret I have from moving from my old house to my new house is that I'm 20 minutes further away from Marge's now :'(

I might be mixing up what I think is bavarian cream... I always thought the more yellow custard'y filling was bavarian (or boston?) while the white filling (yuck) was some sort of frosting. We are probably on the same page though ;)

I think you're right! The cream we get here is much more like a white frosting, but they just call the yellow one custard instead of Bavarian cream. We're practically brothers now!
Long John... but it MUST be filled with bavarian creamGrowing up, Krispy Kreme was like the best **** ever, but now that I have a taste of fancy ones from all the different shops around the US, Krispy Kreme feels overprice and pretty meh....

I'm pretty plain, but I think it's because simple is the best.Sometimes you just can't beat the original, to me a simple glazed done right with a cup of coffee is close to what heaven feels like.
Powdered donut stuffed with Jelly, simple and clean.
I think Krispy Kreme is vastly superior when it's fresh off the conveyor, but dunkin' edges it out if you average it out over time.

Hard to rank one above the other, assuming equivalent freshness.
After having an actually good fresh donuts as a kid it's ruined me for life as I still try to chase that same melt-in-your-mouth warm pillow of sugar. It's ruined me to the point regular donuts have tasted cold and stale my whole life since. Basically they are all the same, no matter where you go donuts taste the exact same unless they are fresh.Oh man, I never thought of having the real good stuff early in life can make you suffer so much later.....tough bro
Agree w/ tp - Bagels are superior.
I wouldn't get any. If your cream is crispy, it is beyond stale.
Doughnuts are fried so they naturally have a bit of crunch when fresh. As they age, they lose the flakiness and eventually just become hard and chewy once stale.
https://www.grandads.ca/menuHaha I really like the name of the place and how original all the donut varieties are!! Great stuff
This is my local place. Some kick-ass donuts here! I'm a honey dip man.
The boss brought in still-warm Krispy Kremes yesterday. Simple plain glazed, the best. Not the biggest fan of boxed supermarket Kispy Kreme, but fresh warm ones are indeed quite good.
This was me yesterday
Anyone here try a cronut? I haven't found any local to me and recently learned that was even a thing.
Anyone here try a cronut? I haven't found any local to me and recently learned that was even a thing.Looking at it, I'm pretty sure the French would cry themselves to sleep if they found out.
Anyone here try a cronut? I haven't found any local to me and recently learned that was even a thing.I completely forgot about that, I remember it was a pretty big fad when it first came, but I never had the chance or time to try it.... a quick Google search doesn't show anywhere sell that in Chicago, I wonder....

Those cronut things are pretty incredible, they retain that fresh doughnut texture beyond their freshness point. Respect.
I used to love Boston Cremes as a kid, but eating them as an adult I always feel like I'm getting a facial
