Title: Best place to get Box Navy switches? Best novice PCB?
Post by: Touch_It on Wed, 06 June 2018, 12:53:13
Edit, I can't read.  Packs of 10, price is reasonable :D.

If I were to build my own board (I want a pcb) any recommendations? I'm a novice solderer, and would want to keep things on the cheap side.

Is there a place to buy the switches that won't cost me my 1st borne child?  They sound like a modern switch I could really get behind, but damn if $3.40 a switch isn't ****ing expensive.  Not that I haven't spent that in the past, (I have), but we are talking about $360 for 105 key switches.

Hey man,

It isn't 3.40 PER switch its 3.40 for 10 switches

Box Jades?

Problem with jades is that they feel unbalanced with the huge bump yet fairly light springs.  They make you bottom out hard.  I would like to see a switch with a clickbar thickness in between the original and the jade/navies.

Box Jades?
They are horrible to a point that I consider them a broken design. They are like binary switch with only 2 states of operation, they feel close to a lighting switch. Certainly not my cup of tea. Something between BOX Pale Blue and BOX Navy would be best to be honest. Probably something with a tad lighter spring and a slightly thinner click bar. They went extreme and we need something in the middle. I bought my new Pok3r with MX Blues with an intention to install clicky BOX switches and the best ones currently are Pale Blues in terms of the operations in my opinion (just few grams too heavy to my liking - would prefer ~60-62g bottom out force - and I would prefer having slightly thicker click bar for deeper sound and bigger tactility but not as thick as BOX Navy). None of these BOX clicky switches are THAT good to make me want to desoler entire board, install holtites and put a new batch of switches in.

It's like you didn't read anything he said except that one sentence.  I happen to agree with him and made the same point myself...

Honestly for cheap can't really go wrong with a DZ60.

If you're in Australia, dailyclack.com just pretty good. It's where I got my box jades.

SPRiT makes custom box switch springs so you can spring swap to get your desired weight

For the switch to work properly with a lighter spring it would need to have a thinner click bar because the force needed to overcome the click bar will be much greater than bottom out force and that will result with a switch similar to BOX Jades. Not as bad as BOX Jades but still.

Hmm.. that hasn't been my experience with lighter Box Navies.
