Title: Anyone from Nebraska ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Sun, 10 June 2018, 19:55:07
Been watching videos, about -Nebraska-

It seems like, the folks there are extremely sarcastic.

As if the peeps sort of identify with _Hick_ culture,  and yet, in the modern age, there's really nothing _Hick_ about them (or anyone else w/ internet).

Then maybe they still gotta deal with the traiditional rep perhaps,  and that culminates in a Sarcastic Self-Presentation ?

Could someone educate Tp4 about Braska ?

No one is from Nebraska. It's one of those states that you drive through, and there might be one gas station, and the people who work at that gas station commute from out of state.

I'm from Southern CA but both of my parents are from Nebraska and I've been there many times. There is nothing to do there, no variety of food, and all the cars are American cars. Having said that, I don't think that's the right stereotype. It's midwest, which is different. Hick is the rural South.

Hi - portbaron - ,

Is that also true of lincoln nebraska, or only more rural areas..

What would you say are the primary pros// cons of living there.

I drove through Nebraska at night once. It was quite strange driving on a major highway and not seeing another vehicle for miles. Also it was fun following behind a semi truck that was doing close to 100 mph.

I don't live in Nebraska, but near there.  I live in Iowa.
Nebraska is one of the few places that's more flat than Iowa.

Omaha has had a decent revival of youth (art and music) culture in recent years, compared to a lot of other Midwest cities.  But I can't attest to that from any first hand experience.

I once saw an unmarked police interceptor mustang running the interstate near lincoln.  One of the coolest cop cars I've ever seen.

Other than that, I remember lots of corn.

And the hotel I stayed at was made from mostly concrete.

Omaha is sort of a 'real' city now with more stuff to do I guess, but not so much Lincoln although I haven't been there in over 10 years. It's less than an hour from Omaha. The population is less than 250k. I guess that's pretty normal for a lot of the country, but coming from LA/orange county CA area most areas seem a little limited to me. Depending where you come from it might not be an issue.
Here is a list of restaurants in Lincoln so maybe it isn't all American food now https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g45667-Lincoln_Nebraska.html

One pro is that it's cheap to live there. Like housing is literally 1/4 the price of most of southern CA (even less for bay area). You can get a newish 2000+ square foot house with 1-3 acres of land and a pool for less than a 1200 square foot fixer-upper built in the 1960s in LA or orange county with a little yard. Or buy a normal newer house without so much land for not much more than the down payment on a nice house here.
