Hi,
I was wondering if there is any way to turn on the NumLock key on a Model M for instance when using a Mac(Book)?
I have tried all sorts of combinations + looked on the net, but NumLock doesnŽt activate.
Does anyone here have the same problem/ and or a solution to this?
Thanks in advance and have a nice sunday.

You can run Windows on the Mac and use Num-Lock there.

Well that's an option, but not an option for me.
Thanks anywas

Does the Num Lock key do anything at all? If the key is getting recognized at all, you might be able to use Keyboard Maestro (http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/) to remap the key.
Are the Num Lock keys on Model M's the same as the Num Lock keys in current day boards? I don't have any problems at all with my Num Lock keys using "non-Mac" specific keyboards. I don't have a Model M though so I have no idea what might work.

Hmm... cool utility! That appears to be basically the equivalent to AutoHotKey that Ripster mentioned. I didn't know about it. I'll have to try it out. Keyboard Maestro doesn't let you remap another key as the Caps Lock key. I don't have caps lock key right now because I use it as a control key.

Can Macs even recognize more than one key input?

Right now I remapped the numpad keys to the secondary functions (arrows and so on). Gotta play with it a little more and se if there is a possibility to toggle something as NumLock.
Before nothing happened at all when I pressed Num Lock.
IŽll also check wether it is possible to map arrowkeys to j k l i (HHKB style).
Cheers

What's the actual problem that needs to be overcome? Is the number pad unusable because NumLock is off? Is that different to how newer PC keyboards work?

Actually, pressing multiple keys really fast on an iMac spikes the CPU usage to 100%.
And using key mapping utilities wastes background resources.

I've been using keyremap4macbook for a while now with no problems or bugs or anything. Glad you're liking it too.

My solution: Get Windows 2000. It beats the living crap out of ANY Mac OS.

Not as shiny. Clearly inferior.

Ha! OS/2 v2.0 would do that...did then does now.....as would/will/does DOS...

You must be thinking of a different DOS and OS/2 than I am.
