I was in a hurry to clean my IBM Model F keyboard and removed all keys including the space bar which I had a bit difficulty in removing it. I suspect I should not have done it but I did it anyway. So is there a way to put it back without disassembling the whole keyboard?

Not if it is one of the small ones, an XT or an AT.
There is a long "under-carriage" assembly that goes into the plate like the barrels and installs from below. I use a weighted thread to hold the pieces in place while I press them together.

Ok thanks! I guess I'll have to open it up.
