I have received six geekhack keys (3 "sets") and will be parting with four of them.
In an effort to amuse myself (as well as give a few of you an opportunity to have one of these originals), I have decided to part with each one in a different manner.
1. I will trade one GH key for...something. The most interesting (to me) offer will win (this does not, necessarily, have to be something of high value). Those interested should PM me with their offer. PM topic should be "GH key trade". You can only make one offer (first PM I receive from you). If you post your offer publically, your offer will be void. (the winning offer will be revealed, of course...unless the winner wishes it not to be)
2. I will auction one GH key off on eBay. This will be a one week auction with no reserve, and free shipping worldwide. If you wish to allow someone to walk away with one for pennies, that's fine with me. Any actual money made will go into the geekhack fund (account I use for geekhack-related expenses). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180502937620
3. I will give one GH key away to a "nominated" geekhack member. Nominations are submitted in this thread. You cannot nominate yourself nor can you plead your own case...only campaign for other members who have been nominated.
4. I will give the last GH key to either the second-best offer, another deserving, nominated member, or via a fourth method which you can suggest and discuss in this thread also. :)
One key will be accompanied by a NIB keyboard (with brown or blue Cherries) and one will be accompanied by an autographed picture of yours truly (regardless of whether you want it or not). :) This will be randomly determined.
Current nominations
Vils (Ripster)
Stevie Wonder (BitFlipper)
42.tar.gz (Kriminal)
Trievalot (HaaTa)
Chloe (Itlnstln)
Sandy55 (ClickClack)
Lam47 (iMav)
lowpoly (phoenix)

This is great! hahaa... gotta let them creative juices flow...
I think someone should offer you a pink paperclip! You can get a house for one if I remember ;)

eBay link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180502937620) added to first post.

I nominate iMav. ****. Wait a second.
I nominate that you can't nominate people (like me) who already ordered GEEK HACK keys successfully.

yes, those who already have one are not eligible (should've clarified that, but I thought it was obvious).
There were some members that were quite unhappy at not getting a chance to order...this gives those folks an opportunity.

Is it OK to shill bid on eBay to drive up the price? I haven't donated to Geekhack.org otherwise yet. Is it still shill bidding if I intend to pay?

The eBay auction is wide open.

And don't give it to Waperboy. I wouldn't have even noticed the kerning until he brought it up (although I believe he will one day relent).
Waperboy is innocent.
HaaTa noticed the problems with spacing and I tried to show off my limited typographic knowledge by pointing out it's kerning. http://geekhack.org/showpost.php?p=172165&postcount=33
HaaTa and I both have the Geekhack key...
-
I nominate Stevie Wonder. He won't complain about the kerning.
-
iMav, you're a rockstar.
-
- He WON Geek of The YEAR for some cold country where you have to burn wood to keep your ISP connection alive. All he got was a stoopid Xbox when he REALLY wanted a Geekhack key.
ROTFL
hmmm i nominate 42.tar.gz bcus... well.. *shrugs* dont know...

:-) I lolled :-)
Blind jokes are OK. Just do NOT call my music sentimental.

Gnn... anti-nominated on the first day.
Alas, once discovered, it's quite difficult to change your perception of something. I guess that goes for both visual artifacts and presupposing new members. ;)
-
the fun of the elderly.. shortage of GH keys.. say is it cold up there?
-
I'm with Ripster, I vote for Vils, too.
-
courtier.. you only have to plait trackball cables..
-
I nominate trievalot, cause he's the reason I have a Model F AT.
-
I nominate Chloe and Sandy55. They have probably made the largest contribution to the mind share of Geekhack of all our members, especially when it comes to Cherry and ALPS.
-
hmmmm... yeah I like that idea =)
I vote Sandy55 or Chloe.... hey what about
Lammy? Liam... (damn I forgot his name atm...)
EDIT: Lam47 !!!!
yup I think that would be nice!
-
Lam47 is a good candidate, too. With all the health problems he's had, I'm sure it would cheer him up to get a GH key.
-
Ya I think I will nominate Lam47 =)
Lam47 !
-
Let's try to keep it one nomination per member.
I updated the first post with current nominations...covered them all I believe, excluding multiple nominations. (nominated Lam47 myself since everyone else that nominated him have already nominated someone) :)
-
Also wanted to mention...once the eBay auction closes, all other venues will close as well (and I will select winners).
-
I nominate lowpoly.
-
Oooh. Another good nomination. He hasn't been around in awhile. He's probably working hard on the miniguru.
-
Second the nomination for Sandy55.
Learned a lot from his posts.
I have a set on the way via a kind offer from another member, so count me out.
-
I nominate lowpoly.
thirding lowpo for having come up with an entire helluva keyboard from scratch. (I really hope it gets produced, but even just getting mentioned on engadget for it is a lot more than the rest of us chumps have done).
Think about it. He did the body, casing, design, firmware -- everything. In like his basement or something. With really innovative built in mouse buttons, and it looks like a million bucks to boot.
And that doesnt even include the amazing interactive website he created for it, where you can choose your color options and see the resulting pic immediately, and configure the key layout online. Jesus.
He was like a one-man keyboard corporation.
If anyone deserves a special geekhacky award, its lowpo.
*I just made a pun. The geekhack(e)y award. Get it? get it? he should get a geekhack key, get it? for being geekhacky! See what i did there?
-
I nominate eherzog because without her, iMav would be nothing.
-
However I assumed that Key #1 would go to whomever offered iMav the most interesting sexual favors. Why else make it PM?
I simply don't want members to feel they have to one up other offers they see.
No, uhhh, services will be accepted. :)
BTW, the offers have been interesting so far.

muahahaha

ha-HA! Long time user first time poster I see. Perhaps this post could be more significant tham we think... hmmm... ;P
Hahaa, I just noticed I gave a vote for Sandy55 on the first page... well then, I guess I should support my candidate!
So...
SANDY55 ROCKS!!!! Sandy55 has supplied insanely helpful info! nuf said, boooya!
-
I nominate trievalot, cause he's the reason I have a Model F AT.
What better reason could there be for a nomination? :)
If you never received the 84-key Model F AT, you would have never come up with what I believe is the best keyboard mod ever, and the world would have been much worse off!
-
Another vote for Sandy...
-
Posting in case it's a requirement for the cherry board. cmon imav, you know you wanna give it to me =P
-
I just realized if I give away ALL my Geekhack keys I could enter the drawing and possibly win a NIB Blue Cherry keyboard.
Hmmm......
P.S. iMav can keep the autographed picture.
I should have realized you had an ulterior motive :)
-
Less then two days left. There are a few acceptable offers in my inbox, the eBay auction has bids, and we have a few nominations in this thread. So at least three of the keycaps will be headed out the door. I've got some more keycaps being donated to be given away in similar fashion, so if you guys have some good ideas, let me have them (for round two).
I like the typing test idea, even though I think it was suggested in jest. Not sure how to keep it honest though.
I may do a random drawing for one next time. I also have some other amusing ideas.
-
I would give away my 'norwegian mug'.
(http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/8772/dscn4606z.jpg) (http://img535.imageshack.us/i/dscn4606z.jpg/)
But I won't since I don't have an actual keyboard for that key.
The text reads:
The Norwegian manufacturer asked his Swedish colleague:
- We are manufacturing a mug and we wonder if the handle should be on the left or right side?
The Swedish then answered somewhat annoyed:
- But for heavens sake, use the inside! [his brain]
And the Norwegian followed the good advice.
I'll vote for lowpoly as well, I like that design.

2.5 hours left and it's only at $12 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180502937620&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT#ht_500wt_1182). What a bunch of pansys. Hit that bid button so Imav can at least take his lady out for a sandwich and soda.

@iMav, What about us Geekhackers not residing in the Us ? The ebay listing is restricted to US only :frown: Can you not open the offer for those of us who missed the posting ?
Also I wish to nominate the Newest member to Geekhack at the time of my/this nomination, GL to whoever you maybe.
Only 2hrs 8 mins left on ebay :frown:
EDIT: Just read the Post again and noticed "2. I will auction one GH key off on eBay. This will be a one week auction with no reserve, and free shipping worldwide.", so I bid.
-
Yes, free WORLDWIDE shipping.

it's not about me making money. It's about giving others opportunities to receive one of these keys... (I received a lot of complaints that several people felt they had no opportunity to purchase one. Now they have several potential ways to acquire one.)
Note, all methods for this round end when the eBay auction ends...the trade offer as well as the nominations.

Give away is OVER! Thanks for playing. This thread will be unstickied and closed.
Give away results thread coming shortly.
