Title: BIG project
Post by: nads93uk on Wed, 05 May 2010, 13:14:26
Hi everyone,

I wanted to make/(heavily mod) a keyboard and I need some help.

Ideally this is how it would turn out:

Is there a platform I can start from? Any suggestions?
I will try to illustrate soon.

THANK YOU ALL.

No blues, but you could probably get close, using a 5576-C01 as the modded board, an XT Model F, an AT Model F, and a Euro Model M as donors.

Enter (and stabilizers) from the AT Model F
Left shift from the Model M
Right shift from the XT Model F (do note that it won't be the right shape, though.)

Now, that won't get it finished. You'll have to use the AT Model F's small backspace.

I believe that gets you close, but not quite there.

Aha, but aren't the Model M keys incompatible with 5576s?

The 5576-C01 is the exception, though - it's a re-cased Japanese-layout M13, essentially. It's sorta still in production, as the EnduraPro and SpaceSaver 104 are based on it.

Is it possible to mix and match switches like a few fukkas and a few blues?

In fact, the 5576-C01 was designed by IBM Canada, and manufactured by Lexmark.

Where am I going to be able to purchase these items?

Well, you said JIS, so you'd get the 5576-C01 wherever you buy used Japanese keyboards.

The rest of the boards, you'd get from eBay. Probably US for everything but the Euro Model M. Alternately, you really just need keycaps and the plastic inserts. Longshot is Unicomp, might also be able to get something from someone on here.

5576-C01, i saw one of the for 148,000yen in akihabara when i went this march and i wondered why the hell it was so expensive.

Is there such thing as a Japanese Omnikey?
