Title: Philips Magnavox WebTV Keyboard
Post by: smarmar on Sun, 25 November 2018, 14:28:10
My aunt was cleaning house and got rid of her state-of-the-art Philips Magnavox WebTV wireless infrared keyboard webtv internet terminal sold separately. She used to be an early adopter of tech until the 2000s. The keys are thin like the keys from a laptop (yuck!) but feel surprisingly nice despite using a rubber dome (hooray!). The main web-browsing keys glow in the dark, too.

Fun fact from Wikipedia:
Because WebTV utilized strong encryption, upon launch in 1996, WebTV was classified as munitions (a military weapon) by the United States government and was therefore barred from export under United States security laws at the time.

Yay 90s!

I remember the commercials for this. I always thought the hardware for connecting to the internet was built into the TV itself (like a modern smart TV). I never knew it was a separate box, but that makes sense.
