Title: Kishy's Song of the Week: Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind
Post by: Input Nirvana on Sat, 08 May 2010, 21:02:43
"I'm glad you asked me twice.
You see, I'm a bi-ling-u-al.
I'm a bi-ling-u-al illiterate.
I can't read in two languages."

"Do you want a drink?"

"No thank you, that's very nice."

Classic stuff, Kishy!  :)

Lmao, thanks :) Suppose Pet Shop Boys get the credit for the distinctly weird video though.

I listened to a clip of that, and it sounded like total BLAH. Repeating drum loops... shoot me.

Where's the harpsichord, where's the SID chip?

The only song outside the realms of classical music with a harpsichord in it is Golden Brown by the Stranglers...

Actually the harpsichord is baroque, not classical. And there are many different types of harpsichords, most common of them being flemmish, spanish, english, and dutch.

The Stranglers.....fun stuff, wish they did more recordings, it was mostly live.
Beach Boys.....definitely innovative, and subsequently (sadly) only one of a kind.

Also Beach Boys intro to "God Always Knows".  Listen carefully to the layering in this song.

That layering technique was later copied by a band called the Beatles (note: not spelled Beetles).  One of the members named Paul McCartney also owns this Electic one of a kind Baldwin Harpsichord.  George Martin played it on "Because" in Abbey Road.

Electric harpsichords are no fun!

Who's really good is Scott Ross playing Soler's Fandango:

That is so amazing, the sound quality isn't the best on that one, but the other one got taken down.

Scott Ross is an absolute genius, the Fandango is one of the most complicated pieces of music to play ever written. Forget the "beatles" and "beach boys," that's music for the masses.
And yes, Ross does kind of look like Chuck Norris...

I have the Scott Ross Handel disc collection, Track 15 on disc two is really good.

I actually meant to say "That I could think of". Internet in the late hours of the night is not a good idea.

I hate harpsichords. Always going out of tune on stage when the dry ice fog blows past.

Harpsichords are great because you can't hit soft notes; I hate pianists who play really softly, slowly, and quietly! It must be constant, fast, and have that sharp metallic noise. I guess Model Ms and harpsichords have something in common.

Yes, but a Model M won't produce a B when you press A or C, just because the temperature changed since you powered up.

You could achieve this in FL Studio.
