Not cheap—but sufficiently interesting, I thought, to share:
Elgato Stream Deck - Live Content Creation Controller with 15 Customizable LCD (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Elgato-Stream-Deck-Live-Content-Creation-Controller-with-15-Customizable-LCD/163516065435)
NIB, BIN $173.40 + free US shipping

It's like a mini version of the Optimus Maximus keyboard Chyros reviewed here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=98687.0), though I don't know what type of switches it has. Each key has a color LCD display where you can show any image. Apparently the angle is adjustable.
If I had one, I'd use images of normal keypad legends, just to be ironic.

Yeah I posted a topic (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=96746.0) about this device last year. Responses seemed rather unimpressed though I thought it had potential for certain use cases (not personally but it is interesting like you said).

The price is steep, but it's unquestionably cool. And since you don't have to actually type on it, the switch response isn't as important as it would be with an actual, you know, keeb.

It does look cool and BTW it's available on Amazon for $148 with free shipping (and there is a six key version for $69.99 with free shipping):

Edit: The ebay seller is based in Japan and product ships from US - sounds like the old ebay/Amazon scam.

This one finished, but the link (in 1st post) now points to a used one for $60-something.
