I just bought a 25 years old IBM model M, and I found that key sounds are not equal between keys.
I'm thinking about buying new pivot plates from Unicomp.
1. Are older (25yrs) pivot plates and springs are much better than Unicomp ones?
2. Do Unicomp parts have any issues, especially pivot plates, because of their old manufacturing tools?
3. Will I benefit from changing pivot plates to new ones?

Merely taking the thing completely apart and doing the bolt mod will change the sound and feel, regardless of whether you change the springs and pivot plates.
Those little things would be one of the last places that I would look for problems. And if you are ordering from Unicomp anyway, I recommend buying one of the new thin white latex blankets for $10 along with the rest of the order.
