Title: Guide to removing and cleaning mechanical switches?
Post by: LrgDietCoke on Sat, 23 March 2019, 13:29:32
Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone had a guide on how to open up and clean old mechanical switches. I will be harvesting vintage cherry blacks from an old board and wanted to give them a good cleaning and lube them before using them on a new board. Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Depends on the keyboard. If the switches are plate-mounted, you need to desolder them. You don't need to desolder the switch if the switch is PCB mounted.

That said, I'm not sure if lubing vintage blacks is worth it.
