Welcome to the Ground Control Interest Check Thread!
Inspired by ATC's keyboards, Ground Control is an SA keycap set that will make you feel like a real air traffic controller.
With white alphas, green modifiers and an alternative blue number row, Ground Control will hopefully be an ABS doubleshot set.

It is an interesting design, it is probably too colorful for a boring Joe like me though. If it has some boring Joe options, well, maybe???

The second version is easier to do by adding to the base kit a blue enter, a green back space, and a white space bar instead of the yellow one.

Fun fact about them: they all exist in real life with the exception of the "ON" key

Anyone can run an IC as they please, but they may not necessarily get the GB thread approved.

I like this design a lot :) One of the few really colourful sets I'd actually put on my boards.

Just a design note: DSA does not have a semi-matte option, all keycap sizes are matte finish only (except for relegendables).

Woops.

Something that I've noticed is how the set changes with just 3 keycaps changing colors (enter, back space and space bar). Some people like the color craziness and others prefer the 2~3 color scheme. If both groups of people could have a set they like it would be fantastic.

I'm definitely interested in the set.

That option might be a little more difficult to do. BUT I've noticed that there are two groups of people who like this set so what I could do is either add a second WV number row and a green Enter key or provide a base kit with no number row and then choose one (blue or white).

What do you guys think about it?

Probably would prefer an option to add a WV number row if that makes it easier. Does the "Novelties Kit" come with a green Ground Control key?

Speaking about the WV number row, I have to re-do some of the kits, including the base kit and novelties so yes, there will be a WV number kit and a green "GROUND CONTROL" keycap as well as the blue one.

We will have a problem with the International kit number row but we'll figure out how to solve it later (maybe splitting the kit in two or just choosing one color).

The regular Joe version looks good; however, I am not sure if DSA is pulling enough attention lately, though, judging for the low count of votes. As GMK or JTK will require much higher MoQs the Cherry profile may attract more people. Just some yellow flags.

I'm glad you liked the newer colorway but the blue number row will probably be in a kit as well as the red enter and yellow back space. That way everybody we could have 3 styles for just one set!

Well, it was designed as a DSA set because those keyboards use this profile. In addition, I wanted to make it more accessible to Dvorak/Colemak and ISO distributions. However, if the community prefers a DCS or SA profile, I will gladly change it.

One more thing, I am currently designing the set again from scratch, which means new renders, revised kits and probably novelties. Here is a sneak peak

To be honest, the set didn't draw as much attention as I thought but many people said "I like it but..." which really means that it needed to be polished. That's why I decided to start over again and (hopefully) post the V2 of the set either today or tomorrow.

Soon after the  V2 of the set and reformat the current IC are up, I will post a google doc or something similar so we know which profile do people prefer for the set, International kit, ergodox, planck...

The lack of interest may be related with other factors, like the profile, or even the manufacturer. DCS and DSA profiles by SP are know to be thin, and not much liked around recently, DS appears to be in its hypest season recently.

In my case, after trying all profiles available for MX switches, I learned that I prefer the Cherry profile, in thick ABS; so, I would get into a GB for different profiles due to solidarity, but not really because I would use it. I think some of the elders around here have already settled with certain profiles for caps.

The profile dilemma is huge! So far people have suggested me DCS, SA, R3 SA (like Danger Zone)...

Go with your best bet, I hope your set would do well, it is hard to make everybody here to agree, the only way is to make the decision and run the GB. There have been some GBs recently that failed, even with well tested designs like Cherry Beige, so there is no warranties.

It is a way for some people to get involved with the community. These designers are more inclined to post more and stay involved than a lot of people that post once for an Artisan sale and never again :) As long as they show they are serious about the set and the community I don't see any problem with them posting here!  ;D

Here is my 2 cents on the profile subject...

First, let me just mention Sculpted SA is my favorite SP profile. BUT, as a designer as well I know the profile really is/can be made an integral part of the overall set and theme. Personally DSA really seems to be the most fitting profile, thematically speaking. After doing a little research on the keyboards that you are basing this on...

...it would seem DSA is the most obvious choice, as the actual keyboards have a profile very similar to DSA from what I can tell. There is also the fact that this will make a lot of the child deals much cheaper (I know Colemak/Dvorak support is important to you) because you don't have to worry about Rows in the design. DSA also gives you more options on material/legend tech than say SA would as well.

Finally, I think its great that you are reaching out to the community for input on this! I will encourage you though to stick to your guns when you make a decision, especially if you think it is essential to the design in some way. Just remember that you cant make everyone happy  ;)

While designing the set, I made a little research and studied many ICs and GBs: Juke Box, Calm Depths, Granite, 1976, Danger Zone...But the MiTo Sci-Fi DSA set really draw my attention because it had several child deals that were cheap and allowed many people to get their first set by a reasonable price.
And that's why I'm more keen on the DSA profile

On that note, you are more than welcome to copy or base child deals off jukebox ones. There are always things to add, or that you may not need (as mine was sculpted) but just so you know thats totally fine with me  :thumb:

Anyone can run an IC as they please, but they may not necessarily get the GB thread approved.

Who cares  because you don't need to lick anyone's hole on Geekhack anymore, just post it on MassDrop and watch the numbers pile on in  :thumb: .

About time that everyone has real freedom to come up with their own colour-ways as they see fit without having to seek anyone's approval anymore, welcome to the new world order and it belongs to MD  ;) .

Ok, so let's talk a little bit about the GB :

I'm not worried about the GB thing, because the set is FAR from it and as Livingspeedbump said, the ICs are allowed to newbies because it is a way to introduce us in the GH community.

To be honest, I don't find myself capable of running a GB for several reasons. Firstly, because I live in Europe, secondly because I'm a student and I wouldn't be able to run a GB properly and finally because I'm too inexperienced in this field. If the set makes it to the GB, I could consider 3 options:

But, as I said before, the set is far from the group buy, we shouldn't mind about this stuff yet.

I wrote an article on making sets, could be some info in there for you. If you want to know the differences of MD/PMK I can let you know about those as well in more depths.

Definitely can be updated more and more, but its a start.

Please do! (and maybe even make two of the 1us WV, I'm fine with one but 2 1u WVs might appease for potential planck grid buyer)
Also I agree with LSB that this set would probably work the best unsculpted, so DSA or SA R3. This looks great so far, keep up the hard work  :D

Ok then, I'll change two 1U greens for cream caps and I think we could say that kit is finished.

By the way guys, I have done a test version of an Ergodox kit with legends what do you think about it?

Polls are done and your feedback has been helping me a lot to be closer to finish this set.
Today I will publish a new poll that will ask you about novelties, ATC novelties, gamer kit, probably Ergodox and profile(yes, again).
I hope that even more people participate in this poll so we know which profile the community prefers. This time, there will be only 2 options: either we go with SA or DSA.
If we go SA I will have to do some extra work, but I don't really mind.

By the way, I've ordered some Signature Plastics color chips just to see if the color scheme is perfect (specially the WV and the new red keycaps)

Although other don't seem to agree, I think this set needs a uniform profile to pull off the aesthetics of the set and since SA is all the rage these days I think it should be SA R3. A uniform profile also cuts down on the costs of child deal, which would probobly result in more buys

DSA and SA were far ahead of the rest of the profiles. Since we hadn't a clear winner I decided to ask you guys to choose between DSA or SA. I'd like to know what people that voted before SA R3, DCS or "No preference" think of this two profiles.

I think SA profile is probably what it needs to set it apart from being easily recreated with other keycaps/modifiers (despite all the recent SA releases)  :p

Somebody at Reddit said to me earlier something similar. That person said that the base kit (the one that many people enjoy now that I changed) could be very easily recreated with other keycaps and didn't understand why people would prefer it rather than picking some white caps and green modifiers and mix them together. He was partially right, you can do it. But in my opinion it will never be the same as what I am presenting here. For me, it felt like if somebody was saying me that Granite is just 2 shades of grey.
I know that the set could has nothing special for many people, I knew it the moment I started to do that. But I also knew that there were people like me who would be pleased by the font, the color combinations, the background and many other little details of this set. Plus, we've got the child deals that expand the possibilities. Hell, my favorite part of of this process was discovering the WV-VCM-BFN combination(white, green and blue number row).

I totally agree. Most of the highly desired keycap sets are simple color combinations, but it's the thought and detail that goes into them as well as how the aesthetic presents itself as a whole. And not only does it capture a theme in this case but I personally find the colors to be subtlety pleasing to the eye, yet still entertaining.

POLLS RESULTS (10/23/2015)

1. Interest Check
(http://i.imgur.com/iTZDN3O.png)
78.3% of people would buy the set / are interested (36)
19.6% of people are more or less interested (9)
2.1% of people are not interested (1)

This is awesome but the set needs a lot of work to convince that 20% of people that participated.
I did notice that some of those more or less interested people asked for Planck's grid support, which was
added earlier this week

2.Which profile do you prefer for the set?
34.8% SA (16)
32.6% DSA (15)
13% SA R3 (6)
10.9% No preference (5)
8.7% DCS (4)

It seems we need to do a second round with only two candidates.
because I feel I can't impose one profile over the other with such a close result.
*There was a participant that voted SA R3 who said: "This kit has to be SA. Uniform R3 prefered, SA if that is the consensus"

3.International Kit
(http://i.imgur.com/9IJdQUI.png)
56.6% of people don't own an ISO keyboard (26)
17.4% of people think that the basic kit is enough (8 )
17.4% of people are interested but only if it's not very expensive (8 )
8,7% of people are interested and price is not a problem for them (4)

26% of people want the international Kit, that's good to know.

4.Planck/Atomic Kit interest
(http://i.imgur.com/tX175Sx.png)
78.3% of people are not interested (36)
21.7% of people are interested (10)

Good to see such interest for the Planck/Atomic kit

5.Ergodox Kit interest
(http://i.imgur.com/TOMYDAM.png)
89.9% are not interested (41)
10.9% are interested (5)
Considering that not a lot of people own an Ergodox, I think these are great results.
The Ergodox kit with legends might attract more owners

Notes:

Thanks to everyone for participating!

DSA flat profile makes easier to make caps for special layouts like Ergodox, than with profiled caps like DCS, or SA contoured.

Thanks.

Before doing the Ergodox child deal I did a research about previous keycap sets with an Ergodox kit with legends. In my honest opinion, Granite and Deep Space had the best Dox kits that I've ever seen.
That been said, this week I've to finish anything related to the Ergodox and there are two options: adding 1U keycaps to that kit or finding another child deal where those keycaps could be.

Somebody also suggested about adding some Airport IATA codes:

ATL (Atlanta)
AMS (Amsterdam - Schiphol, you could see planes crossing over the motorway)
ARN (Stockholm - Arlanda Airport - very Swedish)
CDG (Paris, Charles de Gaule - very impressive and huge)
FRA (Frankfurt)
PEK (Beijing)
IST (Istanbul - home of Turkish Airlines, never been there)
JFK (New York - huge airport and probably the second biggest I've been)
LAX (Los Angeles)
LHR (London Heathrow - same as JFK but with a fancy train)
MAD (Adolfo Suárez - Madrid Barajas - This is the most impressive of the list by far)
HND (Tokyo)
PHX (Phoenix)
SYD (Sydney)
YVR (Vancouver)

Profile Update

Hi everyone,
Polls have been closed and here are the results regarding the set profile:

SA 53% (31 votes)
DSA 47% (27 votes)

However, after considering as NULLS those votes where no username was provided (reddit, geek hack or deskthority):

SA 60% (30 votes)
DSA 40% (20 votes)

Which means SA has been elected as the profile to go.

To conclude this update: from the very beginning I have expressed several times that I wanted this set to be more accessible both for ortholinear boards, Ergodoxes and other special layouts. Because of that reason, I'd rather prefer to  have an SA R3 profile over any other option.

I decided to close the poll a little bit earlier than what I expected but feel free to post your opinion, it doesn't matter if you 'joined' the IC today or the first day.

If everyone is going to push the SA train, let's definitely go the S3 train.

Good to know your opinion, SA R3 is the best choice for Doxes, Plancks and Atomic keyboards since they wouldn't be affected at all.

By the way, I will do a 3rd poll to discuss some issues regarding the International kit demand. I will ask about which distribution you have so I can figure out if there is enough demand for, let's say the Spanish distribution. This is an important question for me since I've seen lately many sets where their International kit cost up to $70 because a random dude called Zambumon added some keys for a layout that nobody is buying. That being said, Nordic+German has always a relative high demand.

Tsangan: added a 2.25U Shift key

I think uniform R3 is still the best for this set. Maybe you should do another poll with R3 vs 12334 if you can't decided. I think the main reason R3 didn't do as well in the main poll was that people were more concerned with just have SA in general, this might clear up what people's true opinions on SA sculpting are.

I'll do another poll for sure, just to know about this, the international kit and some other stuff like the gamers kit and check if everything is finished.

The thing about 1-2-3-3-3-4 is that we get a sculpted profile where you can play with those three R3s. That profile has worked well before in some sets like Penumbra or Calm Depths

(Didn't realize where your message  was until  I found out that it was in the middle of a quote)

So, some kind of an ATCs novelties idea. Somebody suggested that we could have instead of two versions of the keys some airport IATA codes. I've been thinking about two possibilities, they could be blue (like the colored number row) or they could be R3s WV so you could use them instead of "regular keycaps". For instance, using JFK for the J, MAD for M, YVR for Y, LAX for L...

It took me a while but I've rearranged and cleaned the OP because it was a mess. Now it is more concise and faster to read.

If things go well, tomorrow I will post the final IC form which will ask about the international kit distributions and ATCs novelties, which some people liked.
I will also ask about the profile which will be either SA R3 or 1-2-3-3-3-4. Both are great for this set and, no matter what the community choses, I'll be happy with the decision.

(sorry, I forgot to upload this render)

Ninja edit: I merged the color kit with the base kit because it felt weird that some child deals (like the ISO) had the 2 number rows.

What do you think about it? It's hard to fill all those Ergodox layouts since there isn't a standard one.

I needed various attempts to do that icon because I wasn't convinced so I tried with 2 circles, then 3, then changed their sizes... The final version looks even better with the other two novelties and all of them help a lot to understand de background of the set.

No profile question on the poll?

I'd rather prefer to discuss about the profile in the IC. Between SA and DSA people preferred SA and I know for a fact that there is a group of people that want R3. However, in the first poll we had multiple options including SA R3, SA and DSA. DSA and SA had a similar number of votes while SA R3 was far from them. My intention is to have a SA 1-2-3-3-3-4 profile because those three R3 rows are great if we want customization and multiple layouts but we still have those R1 R2 and R4 which was what people asked for.

Profile will be most likely 1-2-3-3-3-4 as I've said before which will make Dvorak, Colemak, Ergodox and Planck users life much easier.

That would be awesome and beyond my expectations! But for we'll have to wait for a while to know that.

So, this week lots of things are going to happen:
Firstly, color chips are coming (probably on Tuesday since tomorrow is holiday in Spain), I'll take some pictures of them and check if everything is fine, especially with the OAS and RA keycaps.
Once I've done that and check that nothing is missing, I'll send the mockups to Melissa with all the details, ask her about preliminary prices, and if there could be any issues with the novelties.
I'll post prices, get some feedback and change any child deals if necessary.

Finally, we will explore Group Buy possibilities(which are anything but me ruining running the GB).

Since we are most likely sticking with the SA 1-2-3-3-3-4 profile, I started to check if there was anything missing. Turns out that yes, some stuff was missing, like the extra R3 arrow keys in case you had a Planck.

Color chips have arrived!
They arrived yesterday but I didn't check the mailbox
Good news: RA, YCF, VCM and OAS are perfect for the set! :thumb:

(kind of)Bad news: BFN didn't looked as I thought (don't be tricked by the photos, trust me) and unfortunately I didn't order a BFP color chip, which is a stronger color and the other possibility I had in mind. In addition, as you could see, there is no WV color chip there! I ordered both color chips because I suspected that WV would be grayish. Turns out I was right! Luckily I ordered a WCK color chip.

Conclusions
The "new" color scheme is:
WCK (white), VCM (green), BFP (blue), YCF (yellow), OAS (orange), and RA (red). Legends are WCK (white legends) or NN (black legends).

PD: while doing this post, I've realized that BFN it is used by DSA EVE, ROUND 4: SPHERICAL, and Symbiosis according to key puller

BFP sounds a tad dark- that was Penumbra's dark blue, right?

Nope, BFP is the light blue, the Shift legends are in that colour. The dark blue used for all the mods is BED.

I got some colour chips in yesterday, the BFP looks like it should work very nicely. I was surprised at how red the RA chip is, suits my own set design perfectly (it looks like YCF will also suit my set). The colours aren't accurate in the PMK photos and neither is this one, but it gives some idea of the difference between BFN and BFP and there's NN next to the BFP:

[attach=1]

It's best to use this as an initial guide to the colours: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Signature_Plastics_ABS_colours

Closest to that actual plastic that there is online. It's a little out of date, so some new colours are not represented and some of the old ones are not active any more, but it will get updated soon.

Also, Krogenar scanned the chips with a flatbed scanner (and mashby kindly hosted them on his Flickr) and though they're not as colour-accurate as the DT wiki RGB values, they're a lot better than the PMK photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/compactkey/sets/72157634628432952/with/9294353672/

I've considered both options since they are known by most people. I've checked PMK and there isn't a single IC over there. Running an IC there would be very risky   and has its advantages, like treating directly with the manufacturer. On the other hand, MD exposure is huge and most sets over there reach the MoQ for all of their child deals.

I don't think PMK is accepting any entries at the moment, I say that as they had previously shown 2 ICs (after the launch of their new platform) but even they are gone.

Are there any other options is the question :)

the only thing i'm hesitant about with the kit is the SA profile. i feel like we're fast approaching the point of SA over saturation! sure, DSA has been done to death.. but what about dcs? lovely, lonely, dcs. i guess nobody loves you anymore dcs. Sorry.

But I digress. Fantastic work here. Most uniquely interesting set I've seen in a long while.

  • Updated color scheme.
  • Profile is 1-2-3-3-3-4

I guess now is time to talk about GB options.

You could try to pioneer the new pmk interest check system, other than that there's always Massdrop

When I checked their page, the sets submitted were a joke if you compare them with any of this board. If I remember correctly they were incomplete, no IC was done before over here and you could notice that those people got 0 feedback…

One thing I'm still uncertain of in the new PMK is how the pricing will compare. Being that it's the manufacturer, the prices should end up lower (no Massdrop fee), but since they set the pricing themselves and it's probably going to be based on how many "IC votes" / preorder requests they get for it, you can't actually tell. The only way is to have a brave soul get quotes for different MOQ's for their set from SP, quotes from Massdrop for fees (processing, packaging, designer fee, etc) and then run the set through PMK to see how the prices differ.

On the other hand, SP seem to be paying more attention to the community. Could have something to do with community run sets getting enough orders to make them work overtime and have their machinery running two shifts a day for the forseeable future, maybe?... As a result, the PMK license agreement has been amended:

"3.      Signature Plastics has the right under the license to:
a.      decide whether or not to produce and sell keysets from the submitted design;
b.      combine and/or eliminate child deals from the submitted design;
c.      determine the quantity of keysets to produce and sell;
d.      schedule when the keysets will be produced and sold;
e.      establish the selling price of the keysets produced from the design;
f.   use the design for marketing and promotional campaigns.
4.   The Designer has the right under the license to:
a.  pre-approve and authorize any changes to their design that Signature Plastics may suggest;
b.  submit the design to other manufacturers/sellers;
c.  rescind the rights given to Signature Plastics under this agreement provided a 60 day written notification is given to Signature Plastics prior to termination of the license. Signature Plastics retains the right to complete all work-in-process and sell all inventory related to that design following termination of the agreement."

So they no longer have rights to change the design itself (only altering the composition of kits) and the designer can rescind the agreement if they're not satisfied with how things are going. Anyway, I think it's a viable alternative to Massdrop (and there are many who really dislike Massdrop for various reasons) and once the website is finally fully functional should be considered. The other advantages are that SP takes care of rerunning the set and the more popular sets should continue to be available after the initial GB run.

The big draw for Massdrop, though, is the visibility and the resulting order quantities. A good design run there will have more sets made and thus possibly lower final pricing than going through PMK, although if the set is "marketed" well at the usual places it could reach similar numbers on PMK once PMK gets established.

The profile has been a nightmare since the very beginning and, as you said, DCS is very lonely (only one person voted for this profile out of 60).

I think that the profile is great for most of us since it is in the middle of R3 and fully sculpted. Ergodox, Planck, Atomic, Dvorak, and Colemak take huge advantage of those three row3.

PMK Store needs a huge GB to kick off their store and a long awaited set would be perfect for them. In addition, they need to find a way to be more attractive than running a GB through Massdrop and since they are the manufacturers, their prices should be lower.

MD is the safe bet and some drops were a great success (Danger Zone, Jukebox, MiTo Sci-fi) most do well (Otaku Kiibodo) and some others failed (Elemento PBT).
Those sets that failed or sold less than what it was expected problem was mainly pricing. They had very ambitious child deals that were extremely expensive ($75 for an International kit, for instance). Before doing all these child deals, I researched how to  solve these problems by checking previous drops and GB and that's why I had to "sacrifice" some ideas and drastically reduce some kits.

I have also considered other sites like CTRL[ALT], or ZealPC (which might not be available because of the GMK Skidata+ GB) but in all cases the manufacturer is Signature Plastics which produces almost all of the custom keysets I've seen.

IATA codes? I was expecting for ICAO but I guess IATA fits better.
IATA codes are recognized by most people LAX, LHR, PEK... And I have also included a MAD keycap! My main purpose with that specific kit was to attract more people since they'll have their country/state represented.

Kits are never final until the set is produced. The very first set had a yellow space bar so we could ask for a spare green one.

Yellow would be even better! But yeah I think some colored space bars in SA would be appreciated.

The polls that were made really helped me to figure out what to do in order to improve the set. Some people were very vocal and expressed what they wanted clearly.

It is nearly impossible to answer all the demands that were made but I tried to do my best.

Also another random suggestion, I feel like the orange gamer set is a bit out of place. I liek the use of color, but I would love it to be in the yellow color instead, and would simplify the color pallet. I do love the fact that you have QWER instead of just WASD.

I wanted to have a unique color for the gamer kit so that's why I used orange over yellow. Here's a side by side comparison

Thanks for the info, your sketches are beyond awesome by the way (Admittedly, I assumed it was 1-1-2-3-4-4)

As for the 2-3-3-3-4 part, it's really optimised for Windows users that have their Ctrl on the edge, for a more comfortable thumb-CMD or Ctrl usage, having R3's on the bottom is much more comfortable, Hack'd by Geeks is a good example, a near optimal SA sculpture choice IMO

But this applies only for a minority, as far as I see not many people use Ctrl/Cmd with their thumbs, so I'm sure the majority will like 2-3-3-3-4 or just don't care

As long as MD and the creator set the correct MOQs and price drops it should be OK. Otaku was horribly set up, with the prices set for child deals at 10 produced, which is obviously going to be incredibly expensive.

Okay. Would blank modifiers be an option to help reduce that? Not that I want that to happen but if it meant the difference between ergodox set or not.

Sure thing, that's my intention since I don't think there is a way to drastically lower the starting price other than that.

One thing though, I've noticed that the blanks and spacebars kit was removed from the list, and that the 7u spacebar was merged with tsaghan kit, so no 6u spacebars anymore.

Is this happening because of SP's missing 6u spacebar moulds? or simply that the need is too small?

I merged and deleted some kits since they could be counter-productive for the GB and we wouldn't reach a MoQ/DropPoints which could end with partially covered keyboards or expensive child deals. That's the reason why I added a 7U Space bar to the tsangan kit or deleted the airport novelties and gamer kit.

I have the preliminary prices for the set but I don't think I should post them since I've slightly changed some kits and the final prices over Massdrop could be different.

One question, what are the row 3 arrows for? Seems like thats gonna end up being a really expensive child pack for three keys.

In case you want a uniform layout for plancks, it  isn't as expensive as you think 4$ aprox

Huh, interesting. Guess I haven't seen a lot of plancks with legends laid out like that.

Now that you have mentioned this child deal, it could also include a R4 "Up" keycap. What do you think about it?

Kind of an update: as many other SA Keycap sets, if we are lucky and Massdrop wants to run a GB, it will take some time to have a it since SP production queue is huge. In the meantime, have some renders.

Last weekend I started to make my own 3D renders so we could have a nice reference of the set. I started by making a Planck because I was thinking about buying one.
Note: the profile displayed there is 1-2-3-4 since I wanted to test the profile, material and colors (and that's the reason I didn't put any legends to it).

I used Cinema 4D. The sculpting was easy but the hard part so far has been lighting and adding a glossy plastic look to the keycaps. I didn't use any tutorial at all.
I didn't consult any tutorials since my PS experience and how the user interface was designed where too familiar for me.

Hi there!

First of all, I want to apologize to everybody for not given any update about this keycap set for almost a month. But the fact is that there aren't any news due to the fact that Signature Plastics has a long production queue and there are some awesome GBs incoming.

In the meantime, I've already completed a side project and I am developing some ideas for future keycap sets which I will polish before posting anything.

Thanks for your support :thumb:,

Hi there,

For the last couple months I have been very busy with PuLSE R2 and, as MiTo and LSB have mentioned, I have been preparing a new project which should be ready in a couple of weeks.

Ground Control was a great exercise and I have learnt a lot from it. For now, the set will be on hold and you shouldn't expect an update in the near future. If I do one, it will be a complete revision of the set.

As always, thanks to anybody that provided me feedback, suggestions, guides… and I hope you'll love what I've been preparing for you!

I said more orange/yellow for planck/atomic/ergodox kit. Even just one key like in the base kit will change it dramatically.

GOOD JOB BTW HOPE THE ERGODOX KIT MAKE IT! And I suggest a vendor neutral key for vertical blue (in same group with enter, fn, shift) because OSX user usually use their thumb to hit CMD.

I'm not a fan of white alphas but I still hope this set gets made.  It's an awesome concept.  I get this damn song stuck in my head every time I see the thread pop back up.

Needs one or two yellow in every other kit (planck, ergodox, etc) to make it more dynamic. Red for every esc, blue for every enter, yellow for every backspace and/or Fn (Lower/Riser could work too).

Super interested!

The original plan was DSA as that is part of the theme for air traffic controllers since those keyboards would use DSA.  It's changed a bit since then and was swept up into the massive SA hype.

Also, the SP ground control queue:
Round 6 - Phase 1 (SA)   In production   Expected completion 6/30.
1976 Round 2 (SA)   Scheduled   Expected completion 7/29. There will be KeyShop sales.
Hana (DSA)   In production   Expected completion 7/28.
Nantucket Selectric (SA)   Scheduled   Expected completion 8/31
JukeBox (SA)   Scheduled   Expected completion 10/31.
Round 6 - Phase 2 (SA)   Quoted   Not scheduled
Electric SA   Quoted   Not scheduled

Dasher/Dancer is scheduled for late this year per what zslane was told by MD.  Others were getting quoted from MD as 2017 runs.  It's one reason one of the SA sets went GMK instead.

DSA and PBT.  Because ABS is too soft to use with dye sublimation, and also because SP refuses to mold their SA profile in PBT.  I don't think SP does PBT dye sub in their DCS profile either.  You'd also have to sacrifice the white legends on the modifiers and switch to black.

What's more important: the font or the colors?  It's up to the designer to decide.

Honestly, I don't know it could be next month or in winter. I like Ground Control but I think I'll change the profile to either DSA or R3 SA which means that I have to revise the child deals.

That being said, there is a GMK set that I'm working on. I've already left some clues...

Cost isn't the main reason for the change of profile but layout compatibility.
