It is a type of
foam-and-foil, which is really old technology. The sensing is capacitive: but only on and off.
Old foam and foil has a very mushy landing, which is generally disliked. The foam also tends to disintegrate, thus rendering the switch useless unless you replace the foam pads.
The question is if these new switches would have some other type of foam that would impact another type of key feel.
