Please help me find a new keyboard!
« on: Wed, 24 July 2019, 17:43:32 »
Dear Keyboard enthusiasts, I'm Greg and i need help because my a key is all but broken.
I have a kb paradise v60 mts matias quiet click switches.

Unfortunately it is done for and can not be repaired.

What I liked:
The switches were rather silent
There was no bump (linear switch?)
Low force required (my pinky hurts if I have to press down on CTRL and SHIFT too hard)

I did a quick image search to find a picture for the size that I like, so the size and aesthetics could be something similar to this:

I don't need RGB, maybe just some super low key backlight so I can see the switches at dawn, but not necessarily. just the switches should be right and I should be able to get it in Europe.
Sorry that I'm asking before reading up, but my A is broken and I want to get a new one soon :p
Hope someone can help me out here!
Thanks!

Greg

If you are looking for a TKL you should get a Leopold one. I wanted to link you to Mykeyboard.EU or candykeys.com, But those websites are almost out stock of all Leopold keyboards including the silent ones. So yeah it's kind of a bummer at the moment. I think you have to look outside of EU for a leopold or just get a Ducky with silent switches since they are more commonly in stock.

Thank you very much for recommending these two websites! I found some really nice Leopold FC750PD ones. Unfortunately, like you said, everything is out of stock, what a pickle.
For most of them I get to choose from a variety of cherry switches, I suppose silent reds are what I am looking for from my description - or is there a different switch that you reckon I should give a go?

And do you guys know why stuff is out of stock? Are they gonna restock?

there is not a other switch like the MX silent unless it clones. They are out of stock because they are pretty sought after since the build quality and the key caps are very good for the price. You could always try to find it second hands at reddit mech market.

About stock i think its the best you send a mail most of time they respond within a day.

Leopold is probably the best quality retail keyboard out there, so this isn't really an alternative to that, but if you want to try out non-Cherry linear switches (which you should, there are so many good ones out there) and you don't want to solder in switches yourself, you could get a hotswappable keyboard such as GMMK TKL or Drop CTRL and buy some fancy switches from somewhere else. Gateron Silent Ink, for example. (If you want to solder then you can of course just change out the switches in a Leopold when you find one.)

Betcha it can be.

Not to say that there's anything wrong with getting a new keyboard if you want to.

Hi Everybody!

I ended up preordering the GMMK TKL Keyboard from a german shop, I ordered a pack of Gateron Clears with it. It is not in stock and might take more than two months to be available, so that's not very great. They don't offer the MX switches with it, otherwhise I would have tried those - do you think the Gateron Clears will do? I can always cancel the preorder.

The Glorious website has no keyboard stock either, and the Leopold ones here are still out of stock aswell, so, that's what I did for now!

Two months for some Gateron Clears? Here are two European vendors that sell switches:

KBDFans also has a good selection of switches, and although its cheapest shipping option from China says 14–30 days, I've always received it in a week's time up here in Norway.

Sorry, I completely misunderstood. I thought only the Gaterons were on back order, not the keyboard.

If not stuck on RGB lighting, you can order the Hexgears GK-707 from AliExpress. It has the same hot swappable Kailh sockets, is cheaper than GMMK TKL, will come with BOX switches you can use or flip, and is in stock. Based on original post, you want, light, linear switches, so BOX reds is what you should get it to start with.

I have the full size variant (GK-705) at home, and it is very high quality for the price you pay.

I think you should try Matias dampened linears. Those are the variant with the red slider.
They're linear, quiet and very light at just 35gf

Edit: Whoops, didn't see you already found something!
