Advice I always give to get a good laptop with a fair amount of power:
Look to buy one from a University replacing them. They usually don't have a hard drive, so put an SSD in them, and look for the upper end i7 Models, they'll always have those.
Their upgrade cycles are almost always ludicrous fast and you'll be amazed what you walk away with for the price. (The U of A in Arizona gets rid of very high end machines constantly and usually for really killer prices. I've driven up to Tucson a few times for that.)
Just a suggestion in case you don't meet the goal fully.
