Outemu switches
« on: Sun, 22 September 2019, 12:04:19 »
Hi all,
recently I bought cheap mechanical keyboard with OUTEMU switches (blue variant) and so far so good.
Last time I had mechanical keyboard was like 20 yrs ago and it was Chicony with alps switches. I liked that keyboard and It wasn't as loud as this one with outemu switches. I cant really remember but those alps were softer and clicky at the same time.
Outemu blue have that real click sound, sharp, short, .... Anyhow, I heard that most top keyboards use Cherry switches and that they are more durable. Outemu advertise 50 million clicks lifespan which is more than good in my book. Outemu switches are nice to use, keyboard is very comfortable. Im not saying that you shouldn't buy  that cool Daskeyboard. Its just I had Chicony keyboard and some of my firends had IBM mechanical keyboards and I really never heard that they keyboard lasted longer because their keyboard was made by IBM. If you are on a budget like me, keyboards with outemu switches are at least decent opponent to cherry.
Also, you should know (if u buy online) that cheap mechanical keyboards are usually cheap in most of the materials they use. Mine has alu casing but the keycaps are made of cheap plastic. Its not that they are bad bad, its just to remind u why you paid 30$ for it. Its not that they will brake or something like that, its just the finish of those keycaps are not perfectly brushed. If you are not perfectionist you are good to go.
Sorry for bad grammar and have a nice day.
P.S If anyone can chime in to comment about outemu switches please do. Thanks

I'm not a big fan of clicky switches made by outemu, gateron, cherry, or any modern day alternative to cherry switches. But, I do have to say, outemu switches are pretty good for the price! I have had better experiences with outemu switches than i have cherry switches, and outemus are a lot cheaper. Gateron, and Outemu are arguably much better than cherry but regarded as worse becaus theyre found in generic cheap off brand keyboards. I would recommend you get some other outemu switches than the blues, outemu have plenty of very nice aftermarket options available!

I recently bought a cheap Aukey keyboard off of Amazon, with promotion it was about $20.  It has Outemu blue switches.  I wanted to have spare keyboard on hand as either a backup or a loaner, and I figured what the heck since it's only 20 bucks.  I anticipated that it would be just above "junk" level, and maybe a little better than the cheap membrane keyboards that I have lying around.

Color me surprised.  20 bucks buys a really decent keyboard experience nowadays.  It's definitely not my going to dethrone any of my Topre boards in my rotation... BUT it's really not bad at all, and compares reasonably against my three clicky MX boards (QFR, WASD and Pok3r).  I will say that the Aukey with Blue Outemus is LOUD AF, and the box-style stems are not conducive to o-rings quieting. But I cannot imagine that a $80 Cherry MX board is FOUR TIMES better than this thing.  A Leopold, Varmilo or Vortex at $110+ is definitely a better board, and worth the money to me... but this thing competes well against any sub-90$ board I've seen or handled.

The Outemu blue switches feel and sound very similar to my MX blue switches.  Are they as good as Kailh Box Pinks or other new-generation switches?  No, but they aren't bad either.   The only thing I wonder is how well they will age, in terms of chatter or ultimate switch failure.

Im quite interested to find out that for myself but I will not be surprised if Kalih, Gateron or Outemu decides to make better switch than Cherry ( in terms of overall quality).
I bought this keyboard (like many people here) because I wanted durability, only question is, did the producer of this keyboard had the same thing in mind when they put outemu switches on it. I remember few years ago some Zalman keyboard that was very cheap and used Kalih switches. It was a hit or miss with those keyboards and I didn't want to go for it. Some praised the quality of those switches, some condemned them. Now, it seems, Kalih produces much better product than 4 yrs ago.
Dont get me wrong, Im not rooting against any switch type but it is very good to have many producers we can choose from. Its the only way to have the best possible product at lowest possible price. If this keyboard last more than 5yrs I would be very happy with my purchase.
