Question about spacebar size on 75% build
« on: Fri, 18 October 2019, 11:34:58 »
I am considering a KBD75, and am just trying to figure out layout.

This beauty over here:

is using 1.25U CTRL / ALT keys, but is it using a 6.25U spacebar?

KBDFans offers this WKL kind of layout with the KBD75, as "Layout 3," but they appear to be using a 7U spacebar.

https://kbdfans.com/collections/fully-assembled-keyboard/products/fully-assembled-kdb75-mechanical-keyboard?variant=29001267740720

Is that what exists in the photo? If I like that layout, I'm trying to figure out what to order from KBDFans.

Those Ctrl and Alt keys are actually 1.5u and the spacebar is 7u. So the board in the picture is an example of what "Layout 3" would look like.

Oh right, what was I thinking? I should have typed "1.5U" for the modifiers. That's what I meant.

How does a person check to see if a GMK set contains a 7U spacebar? I haven't opened my precious Honeywell set, as I don't want to expose it to the elements  :))

6.25u and 7u spacebars are the most common ones and usually included in the kits, 6u is also pretty common. If there is one longer than your usual 6.25u spacebar it is the 99% the 7u spacebar. If you can't open the package at all, you could just check the description from the site you bought it from. You can always measure key sizes using 1u keycaps as reference, 7u would be 7x longer.
