New Guy here Switch swap question
« on: Wed, 30 October 2019, 11:14:57 »
Hello guys. New to the forums. Wanted to say hello. Introduce myself. I'm finishing up a build I've very proud of. Its been a long time in the making. I love SFF small form factor because I bounce back and fourth between two residents. I backed the DanCase on his second kickstarter and I'm currently running an i7-8700k along with a 2070 Super in this case and managed to get the cpu liquid cooled after a lot of trial and error with low profile air coolers. Sorry I'm just excited its finally come together.
Now, for the main reason I'm here. I am a fabricator by trade. Hence why I like semi challenging builds. I recently purchased a Coolermaster SK621 which is a very small 60% keyboard. Its easy to pack up and take with me when I go back and fourth.
My quesion is, I want to modify this keyboard. I am very proficient with a solder iron. I would like to swap out the cherry mx low profile switches for some low profile kaihl switches. I've never dissasembled this keyboard so I need to do that. The caps I have will not wortk with the kaihl switches because the attach point is different on the Kaihl. The cherry switches have a sort of a cross male on the switch female on the cap. Kaihl uses like a two prong attach point. So I am looking for a compatible keycap set. I will document the process with pictures as well.

Welcome :)

Very cool, I'm using an Ncase right now since it was the smallest case that could hold three 3.5" HDDs.
Thinking about picking up a Velka 5 if they update the mobo mounting since SSDs are pretty cheap now and I can fit a few in there along with the two M.2 SSDs on the mobo.

Keyboards: HHKB Pro 1 & OTD 356CL Dark Greyhat Edition, baybee!

keycaps should fit. that's the entire reason they're made the way they are

The only reason it wouldn't work is if you have choco switches. If so then you need to search for those keycaps - https://novelkeys.xyz/products/kailh-low-profile-keycaps-with-legends

Hope this helps

Yes! My five year old son plays all the lego games. I want to try to do a velka 3 build with an rtx 2060 mitx or a 1080ti mitx. In place of a console in the living roon by the tv for gaming and for streaming and possible as a small plex server. You can't beat that case for the price with or with out the riser. I actually picked up a Glorious Model O today and I think I might try their GMMK compact with some nice switches as my main keyboard. Keep this one as my portable. If the keys linked above are all the same dimensions I think I'll modify this keyboard as well and order a set of those caps. This keyboard is pretty great the way it is. The Model O is the only mouse that is so much different than anything I've used I can't say enough good things. Its amazing for $50. It just replaced a $150 razr. Its great. Thanks for the info guys :thumb: :thumb:
