First time modding keyboard. Need help!
« on: Wed, 03 June 2020, 10:39:41 »
I just unsoldered the switches on my anne pro2 to lube them and the stabs. After resoldering i plugged in to test the keyboard fuctionality before boxing up everything and it didnt work properly. The leds worked but i couldnt type anything. After trouble shooting, concluded that the win, alt and ctrl key is detected as being held down even without any keypress. This my first time so im not sure what i did wrong. I'll put pictures of the solder of the win, alt and ctrl key. Any guidance would be much appreciated cause im stumped.
Also i tried removing the fn key to see it stopped the issue but it didnt.

if they are registering without being pressed, it would suggest that there was either a bridge in the solder (connecting the pins together) or something wrong inside the switch (not put back together right or the leaf got pinched together or something...).

1. i don't see any bridges, so i don't think it's that.
2. does your plate support switch top removal? - if it does, just remove switch top & check out the inside of the switch
    - this is probably the quickest, easiest way to check inside the switch
3. if you can't remove switch top without desoldering, unsolder the switch. check again with switch removed. (this won't hurt anything)
    - does it still register? if not, it's in the switch. either fix inside of switch or replace switch.
    - if it sill registers, there's something else going on with the PCB or another switch.

try these couple things & report back.

the keyboard doesnt support switch top removal. i tested the switches with a multimeter and seemed okay.
but i will try desoldering and try.

it's more common for them not to register. either not a good connection or broken trace on pcb.
- it's not resting on anything conductive while you're testing it?
- none of the switches are "stuck" down?
- check entire board & make sure you have no bridges (solder connecting both legs of the switch together)

i just desoldered those keys. its still auto pressing. i guess pcb is damaged but i checked the other connections are fine and no switches are stuck.
I was holding it mostly or on my table which is wood. well gg.

hmmm, not sure. i don't see anything obvious but don't know if there are any known quirks about this board. think a little deeper searching is in order.

....it's strange that it's registering even when the switch is absent. has to be a bridge somewhere in that row or column.
- and there's a block of a couple keys that are registering as pressed (at the same time)?
- check around all the switches that are causing problems even a switch above, below and to both sides and make sure all soldering looks good and there isn't an accidental bridge from switch leg to ground if solder mask got skuffed/scratched

yes thats the most frustrating. will dig deeper tmr and update. its a block of keys that isnt on the board so investigating the traces.
