Well, it turns out that geekhack is a super reliable hub for anything related to keyboards!

I found the forum via links that instagrammers share to show off the latest keycap and groupbuy designs.

I hope I can make a valuable contribution and maybe meetup with UK based members very soon.

I don't have anything too crazy, all my boards have been retail bought. Pok3r, One 2 Mini (two - cherry silver and brown) and a slew of cheap ones I found when i first was discovering mechanical keyboards. Big shout out to Magicforce 68! What a deal they are

I'm really drawn to the 80s retro aesthetics so if keycaps are pastel shaded in pink/grey/purple in particular then I'm probably already in love with them.

Anyway, thanks for letting me check in and hope to get to know more of you soon.

What switches have you tried? Which do you like? Have you done any gaming on those speed silvers? I find MX reds to already be a tad too sensitive myself. I have looked at those Magicforce boards. They've always been tempting.

I'm typing on a 1980s Nan Tan keyboard right now, lol.



Any interest in the real deal? The vintage switches can be really nice.

I love the 80s keyboards. Way before we starting making RGB and black keyboards virtually standard LOL.

The silvers are good, I'd like something similar but tactile. So, apparently I should try the holy pandas or kailh copper?

The reason for the tactile preference is because I'm accidentally activating the keys now 

I have been tempted previously to get a Model M - a unicomp would suit me just fine. I really would love to try that buckling switch.

Oh man it's great. Buy a Unicomp. You can get Models M on eBay for $50 in decent condition though, but you don't really know what you're getting. Unicomps have a warranty so absolutely go for one of those, unless you really really want that IBM logo in the corner. But, if you do, there's a way to get them to put a Unicomp keyboard in a totally boss IBM case as well. You can just buy the Industrial Grey case on their website, pay a customization fee, and have them put their classic 101 in the case. It costs you an extra $40, but you'll be one of the last people to ever own a factory Industrial Grey Model M.

I'm also sorry for being late. I haven't had a lot of time for Geekhack the last few weeks between crazy things at work, and playing Bannerlord.

I know very little about Holy Pandas, unfortunately. I may have some to play with eventually. Kailh Speed Coppers are ok in my estimation.

Speed silvers are probably the worst case scenario for a standard MX switch when it comes to accidental actuation. MX reds would only be slightly better. I think Gateron yellows are probably the best alternative for linears without going so heavy as blacks. They're very smooth too compared to anything MX.

Buckling spring switches are fantastic. I imagine you'll love them. I don't like membrane buckling spring much myself vs capacitive, but I may be an alien or something.
