Lube help
« on: Sat, 22 August 2020, 13:13:53 »
I saw in a previous post that I made someone said something about a brand of lube called finish line. Is their non aerosol wet lube safe for switches?

Given that this is probably a bicycle chain lube that very few people in GH are familiar with (they'd have to be a bicycle enthusiast), you need to at least provide a product link, and preferably a link to the material data sheet.

3 step process for rejecting lubes for switches:

Google the SDS sheet for the product name.

Do a word search in the pdf for "petroleum".

If the word turns up, don't use it.

Spray lube is meant to be used in places where you can use it to flush out contaminants and coat with lube. There's no way to flush out contaminants in a switch without taking it apart. See the comments here:  https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=108113.0

Also, you cannot properly lube from the outside. See here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=107654.0

A for Finish Line, again, not a spray.
You want Finish Line Flouro Extreme, it's a bit thinner than Krytox 205 and a lot cheaper (very similar otherwise). You will still need to open the switch, you can't just apply from the outside.
